A summary of interesting gear I came across at OR Summer 2015 - Backpack edition -

reported on Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2015, the largest outdoor gear exhibition in Salt Lake City, USA, which is held every year, and we apologize for the long wait. From this time around, we would like to introduce various products that were interesting for each genre. This is the first time I'm going to have a backpack. We'll share some of the most popular models that we've seen at the venue (spring 2016 onwards) that will be revealed in the next season (from spring 2016 onwards) (by the way, please be aware that only God knows whether the models introduced here will actually be available at Japanese retailers before taking a look). Let's get started right away.

GREGORY

Solar Panel x Backpack: Solar Backpack Baltoro 75

This year's exhibition featured many "charging"-related gear, not just this one, but...Solar panels have finally been standard equipment on the backpack! This has been fully jointly developed with GOAL ZERO, which has been working slowly since around last year. The latest model of the company's Nomad 7 solar charger is built into the lid of the pack. It is becoming an era where the use of digital gadgets outdoors is becoming commonplace.

GRANITE GEAR

Backpacks are finally in the age of customization: Lutsen series

Image: Gear Coop News

The original ideas and solid performance of the founder, who is also an outdoorsman, have made Granite Gear, which has many passionate fans, including the Ultra Light community, take another innovative step! This Lutsen series is the quickest route to a "complete fit" that anyone has thought about at least once. Details are unknown, but with this series, it is said that not only can you adjust the length of the back, but you can also customize the length of the hip belt and shoulder strap. The lightweight, breathable polycarbonate frame is highly complete, so I can't wait until next season to see what kind of model it will be.

OSPREY

AG-equipped backpack expands: MANTA AG / MIRA AG ・ POCO AG

Osprey's new back panel system Anti-Gravity has been greeted with great surprises and admiration in the backpack world this season. Released last year, the Atoms AG is a backpack with a hip shoulder strap that fits around your body, allowing for a "negative weight" feel that you wouldn't expect from a backpack before. The highlight of this year was a backpack for day hiking that uses the AG.

AG is also used in the new model of Child Carrier's popular series POCO (photo above). This is great because it has always been well-known for its ease of use as a pack.

Mountainsmith

Unique combination of separate packs and roll tops: Lariat 65

Mountain Smith is rarely seen in Japan for backpacking, but in its home country it has been working hard to make a big presence. While starting this new model of Cordura nylon, which is highly durable and flexible, this large backpack features a convenient attack backpack on the front, and has a roll top waterproof and design that is an interesting model for both outdoor and backpackers.

Renewal greatly improves usability, durability and style: Mayhem 35

This is also a multifunctional backpack that is easy to use for both outdoor and travel. It is also made of Cordura nylon, making it extremely durable. And above all, the front access, which can be boldly opened and closed from the canopy to the bottom of the side, looks incredibly convenient, as shown in the photo above.

Bergans of Norway

Extremely functional and stylish general-purpose backpack: Helium 40

This is also a backpack from Belgans, a comprehensive Norwegian outdoor manufacturer that is difficult to find in Japan today. I thought most stylish Scandinavian items were introduced to Japan, but I was surprised to see that such modern models have not yet been introduced to Japan, with their silhouettes and coloring. In addition to this, the 2016 model has also been significantly improved in functionality. The wide front access is very good as shown in the photo below. It would be nice if it would be easy to get in Japan next year!
