Founded in Bend, Oregon, Hydro Flask has achieved remarkable growth since its founding in 2009, becoming synonymous with the insulated bottle category in its home country of the United States. Its endearing logo, cheerful and colorful color palette, and streamlined elegance exude an Oregon vibe that blends the generosity of nature with the streamlined atmosphere of a cutting-edge city. Its uniqueness and distinctive allure are irresistible.
Last season, they launched their latest lightweight insulated bottle series, the " TRAIL SERIES ." I'd been keeping an eye on them for a while, but when I finally saw that a standard-mouth type with a narrower mouth was released this season, I was thrilled to get one. It's been a blast, from camping in the spring and summer to mountain climbing (and of course, in everyday life, too). Even though I'd never brought an insulated bottle with me outside of the snowy season, I've become so addicted to it that I can't even begin my journey without it, and it's become an indispensable companion.
Of course, the functionality is a given, but that's not the only reason it's such a favorite. So, this time I 'll be writing about the appeal of Hydro Flask 's TRAIL SERIES Standard Mouth Type

What I love about the Hydro Flask TRAIL SERIES
Anyway, it's very light!
The moment you pick it up, you'll notice how light it is, and you'll wonder if it's really a vacuum insulated bottle
The official website lists it as 218g, but that appears to be the weight excluding the lid; in reality, it weighed 258g including the lid. The simple Nalgene bottle (1L) weighs about 180g, but this one feels a little heavier. Even compared to other popular insulated bottles like the Thermos Mountain Bottle (500ml/approx. 280g) and the Montbell Alpine Thermo Bottle (500ml/265g), it's still light enough considering its 621ml capacity. Incidentally, the slightly larger capacity than 500ml is a subtle bonus, especially in the summer when you want to drink lots of water, and I also like the perfect size—not too big, not too small
It's not just light. I love the design and form that makes me want to hold it
Before I knew it, everyone in my family had become HF users, and we now have three types lined up in the kitchen every morning: the traditional bottle, the wide mouth with straw for kids, and the new TRAIL SERIES
As you can see, the latest series' design does not feature the familiar non-slip, matte, powder-coated surface, but rather a glossy, machined surface. This is likely to reduce weight by grams. However, the simple, uncluttered form and sophisticated coloring remain intact, making it a charming addition to any backpack
I took it outside and saw that the earthy coloring, rugged texture of the machined parts, and minimalist straight lines really stand out against Mount Fuji
Along with the coffee set. If you want to brew a special cup of coffee that is perfect for tasting even outdoors, you'll want to pay close attention to the container you use
It's also designed for outdoor use
Not only are they stylish, but they're also highly practical, so you can use them for not only light hikes but also long hikes, traverses, stream climbing, and other hard activities without worry. For example, the lightweight, yet durable and rust-resistant, double-walled 18/8 stainless steel construction is extremely thin at the top to reduce weight, and thicker towards the bottom to increase durability, achieving a balance between lightness and durability
The handle has been hollowed out to reduce weight, so there is no smooth surface to hold onto and you don't have to worry about it slipping off. You can also put a carabiner or strap through it when storing it in the side pocket of your backpack, so you don't have to worry about it falling off
Tapered mouth for easy drinking (Standard Mouth type)
I've been waiting for the release of this Standard Mouth type because I prefer narrower mouths to wide mouths for ease of drinking and pouring. I personally find it difficult to drink from a wide mouth, especially while driving (is anyone else able to drink properly with it?). This one fits perfectly in my mouth and doesn't spurt out in a hurry when drinking directly from the mouth
The heat retention is not amazing, but it's still pretty good. If it keeps things cold, it will stay ice-cold even in the middle of summer
It's not a drawback, but the heat retention performance itself isn't amazingly high. This is clear when you compare it to the Montbell Alpine Thermo Bottle, which is an excellent example of heat retention
- TRAIL SERIES (621ml): Keeps warm after 6 hours (approx. 70°C)
- Montbell Alpine Thermo Bottle (500ml): Keeps the temperature at 78°C or higher after 6 hours
- Thermos Mountain Bottle (500ml): Keeps the temperature at 77°C or higher after 6 hours
I poured hot water at about 95°C into the cup and then measured it again six hours later. It was hot enough to touch, but not hot enough for Cup Noodles
I tried filling it with hot water at about 95°C early in the morning and eating Cup Noodles for lunch, but it was a bit difficult (although it was just possible with the Alpine Thermo Bottle)
If you are looking for extreme use, such as eating instant ramen without using a fire, or if functionality is your number one priority for outdoor use in the dead of winter, then Montbell, Thermos, or other insulated bottles are the winner. However, if you are looking for a drink-based solution, such as drinking hot drinks in winter or cold water in summer, then these bottles are more than adequate
summary
When it comes to insulated bottles for use in the mountains, we tend to focus only on specifications such as heat retention and durability, but when considering use in more everyday outdoor situations rather than entrusting your life to them in the winter mountains, it's not just functionality that's important; it's also the familiarity that makes you want to keep it close at hand and the ease with which you can use it without thinking. In that sense, the Hydro Flask TRAIL SERIES is currently the perfect companion for me, who travels between the city and the field, combining excellent functionality (lightweight, durable, clean) with a great design that makes me want to carry it every day
If I could be greedy, I would like this lightweight series to have even better insulation for outdoor use and a smaller size (18 oz?) for city use, so I would buy both, so please make it
