[High performance, lightweight, compact, and bright! 】5 reasons why "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" is a high-end standard prime focus recommended for outdoor travel

The author is a life's work to photograph camera lens charts. I was blessed with the opportunity to preview "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32," so after taking it on a family trip in a test and camper van, I was convinced that it is one of the best outdoor trips, and I will explain five reasons for this along with a chart.

What is Zeiss' "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32"?

The "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" fitted on the FUJIFILM X-T2. Although it doesn't have a very large camera body, the compactness of the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" is emphasized.

Standard F1.8 open F1.8 standard prime lens for Planar type APS-C

There are three main types of ZEISS lenses currently available in Japan. The first is a ZEISS lens manufactured and sold by Sony for the α series, followed by Koshina, and the last one sold by Kenko Tokinar in Japan.

The ZEISS Touit 1.8/32, which I tested this time, is the last category, and in addition to the Touit series, there are also the Batis and Loxia series, which are lenses for the Sony E mount for a full-size 35mm size. The "Touit" series is a lens for APS-C and is available not only for Sony E mounts but also for FUJIFILM X mounts.

I have already photographed charts for the "Batis" and "Loxia" series, such as resolution and blur, and have published them all together on Amazon Kindle as the e-book "Lens Lab" and "Lens Database" series, but the "Touit" series was unfinished. However, I have been blessed with the opportunity to test three films, "ZEISS Touit 2.8/12", "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32", and "ZEISS Touit 2.8/50M", and I have decided to publish an article about "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" following the article I published on OUTDOOR GEARZINE last time

In the Touit series, which currently has three units available, the ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 is a standard prime lens with an angle of view equivalent to approximately 48mm when attached to an APS-C camera, and the aperture F value is F1.8 and is brighter than the other two. Another point of interest is that it is a lens with its basic design based on "Planar" in the history of ZEISS, which has produced various masterpiece lens designs in its history. Furthermore, it is lightweight and compact, with a diameter of 75mm, total length of approximately 75mm, and weight of approximately 200g. Although it is a ZEISS lens, its actual price is below 100,000 yen and high cost performance is also highly cost-effective, and I will explain the appeal of it in five parts, including the results of the author's photographs of Koyama Yoshiji's original chart, as well as live-action films from when he actually took him on a family trip in a camper van.

Five reasons to promote "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" to an outdoor trip

"ZEISS" brand that gives you overwhelming satisfaction with ownership and joy in using it

For the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32", the blue white logo of "ZEISS" is engraved on both sides of the lens. It's a big difference whether this logo has it or not.

Even if it's not an outdoor trip, there are restrictions on the amount of luggage you can carry around, so you need to carefully select items. That's why I want to just make things that I love and that will lift my spirits every time I carry them around and use them.

If this is work, the filming equipment you bring with you is the number one priority, so you'll have to carry what you need, even if you're forced to, but on a private trip, the situation is completely different. I want to go out with as little filming equipment as possible.

In such cases, we recommend "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32". There are many reasons, but first of all, it is ZEISS lenses. It is no exaggeration to say that the market for interchangeable lens cameras is almost exclusively owned by Japanese manufacturers today. However, only the two German brands can be considered special. Those are ZEISS and Leica. Both are legendary brands that live in such a way that the history of the brand itself can be said to be the history of cameras and lenses.

ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 / FUJIFILM X-T2 / Equivalent to 48mm / Aperture priority AE (F2.0, 1/250sec) / ISO 800 / Exposure compensation: +0.7EV / WB: Auto / Film Simulation: Velvia /
Just because it was taken with a ZEISS lens, I think our family's penis will look a little elegant and smart. It's an exaggeration to say, but the elegant depictions are unique to ZEISS lenses.

It may seem like a real fanatic, but the "ZEISS" logo placed on the lens makes me excited, and I believe that the ability to differentiate myself from other users and show off my own commitment is a performance that has a major impact on the owner's psychological aspects.

Furthermore, the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" is also a major feature that it uses Planar, which is said to be one of the most successful lens designs of ZEISS, a living legend in the history of camera lenses. This lens design was invented by Paul Rudolf in 1896, and it is also a great joy to own it, as it is a Planar lens that uses a lens design that, along with the T* coating, is synonymous with the company's representative high-performance standard lenses.

In a sense, just taking a picture with ZEISS Planar gives you great satisfaction and joy in using it, but the standard lens, the ZEISS Touit 1.8/32, is for APS-C, so it is a standard lens that is essentially 48mm equivalent, so you can enjoy portraits that choose the subject, as well as scenery and snaps easily.

Lightweight and compact, with a diameter of 75mm, total length of about 75mm and weight of about 200g

The "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" is held only in my hand. As an adult man, I have small hands, but the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" has an even smaller image.

When it comes to high-end lenses with a small F value, it is common knowledge that they are generally heavy and large, but the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" is very compact.

The model for the FUJIFILM X-mount used in this shoot is 75mm in diameter, 76mm in total length including the lens cap, and weighs 210g. For Sony E-mounts that do not have an aperture ring, they are even smaller, lighter and have a maximum diameter of 75mm, a total length including the lens cap is 72mm, and weigh just 200g.

ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 / FUJIFILM X-T2 / Equivalent to 48mm / Aperture priority AE (F1.8, 1/250 seconds) / ISO 200 / Exposure compensation: +1.0EV / WB: Auto / Film Simulation: Velvia /
The lens is small and light, making it easy to squat down while holding it in place. Thanks to this, I was able to photograph small flowers on my travels even more impressively.

How small is this? I don't have much hands for an adult man, but I can only wrap it with both hands in a storage state with the front lens cap, rear lens cap, and even the hood attached. Jeans pockets are strict, but jacket pockets are only large enough to easily store them.

Not only is it a huge advantage when traveling, but also outdoor travel, being compact and light is an overwhelming advantage. The "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" is also very good in this respect, and is also very advantageous in situations where you want to take just one lens. When combined with a compact camera body such as the APS-C 6000 series, the Sony α is a lens that can be used for mountain climbing where you want to reduce your luggage to the limit.

The brightness of F1.8 is strong even in dimly lit scenes when traveling.

ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 / FUJIFILM X-T2 / Equivalent to 48mm / Aperture priority AE (F1.8, 1/60sec) / ISO 1600 / Exposure compensation: +0.7EV / WB: Auto / Film Simulation: Velvia /
My son went down during dinner time at a local izakaya. The interior of the store is quite dark, but with an open aperture of 1600, you can get 1/60 seconds with ISO 1600, so there's no need to worry about it being shaken.

In terms of its lightweight, compact standard lens that can be used for any subject, the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" can be said to be a lens suitable for travel and outdoor travel, but for me, the bright side is very important.

For camera lenses, the smaller the number marked with F○.○, the brighter the lens, but for "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32", the F value is 1.8. We will explain in detail how bright this is and why it is useful for outdoor travel.

First of all, F○.○, but the brightness of a typical zoom lens or lens that comes with a set model when you purchase a camera is around F5.6. Also, even a large, heavy and expensive professional zoom lens has a brightness of around F2.8. Compared to the F5.6, the F1.8 can be said to be a 3-1/3-step lens, and is a 1-1/3-step lens, compared to the F2.8, which is very bright for a zoom lens.

ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 / FUJIFILM X-T2 / Equivalent to 48mm / Shutter speed priority AE (F1.8, 1/500 sec) / ISO 3200 / Exposure compensation: -0.3EV / WB: Auto / Film Simulation: Velvia /
Photographed a group of snakes flying out of their bedroom during the hours before sunrise. The lens is bright, so you can ensure a shutter speed of 1/500 seconds, and you can see that the flying rag gun is not blurred.

And if the brightness of the lens is one step different, the shutter speed will be 1/2 if the other conditions are the same. If you have a 2nd tier difference, it will be 1/4, and if you have a 3rd tier difference, it will be 1/8. For example, the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" can be shot at a shutter speed of 1/40 seconds, which means 1/15 seconds for an F2.8 zoom lens, while 1/4 seconds for an F5.6 zoom lens. With a shutter speed of 1/4 seconds, it is almost certainly true that many people will be unable to take proper photos even in 1/15 seconds due to camera shake.

Also, while there are surprisingly many dark scenes on outdoor travel, there are many darker scenes in the shops, cars, campers, and campers, so it goes without saying that if you're looking for mountain climbing, there are many darker scenes. With this zoom lens, you can take photos with the standard bright lens, the ZEISS Touit 1.8/32, even in dark scenes, as if nothing happened.
Some people may find it okay because modern cameras are less likely to lose image quality even with high ISO sensitivity. However, for example, even if you can shoot with ISO 1600 with the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32", if the brightness of the zoom lens is F5.6, the ISO sensitivity set under the same conditions is 16,000. Of course, with such a difference, the image quality cannot be the same, so the bright lens makes it a very superiority when shooting.

Its smoothness and shape are beautiful at a high level

A bale chart taken to check out the beauty of the "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32". The shape and the smoothness of the blur are beautiful at the highest level.

Many people have probably heard that bright lenses tend to cause big blur. To be more precise, camera lenses have the characteristic that the longer the focal length, and the brighter the lens, the more likely it is to achieve greater blur.

The "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" has a focal length of 35mm and is not that great at 32mm, but the brightness is quite bright at F1.8, so you can expect a big blur. When filming portraits, if the background becomes large and blurred, the main character will be emphasized, giving the effect of making the subject more clear.

I have taken this blur by taking photos of ultra-compact LEDs to get a blur, and I chart and evaluate it based on the shape and smoothness of the ball. The chart above is the blurry chart, but the results of the blurry chart for "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" are the highest quality results.

ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 / FUJIFILM X-T2 / 48mm equivalent / Aperture priority AE (F1.8, 1/1,000 seconds) / ISO 200 / Exposure compensation: +1.0EV / WB: Shade / Film Simulation: Velvia /
As a liberal arts lens nerd, I am convinced that this blurry beauty alone is well worth using "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32." This lens will make you want to take pictures when you open.

There are very few edges and coloring that occur on the circumference of the horned bokeh, and there is almost no rust or disturbance inside the horned bokeh. Also, perhaps because aspheric lenses are not used, there is no effect of onion blurring, which is often said to be the influence of aspheric lenses. This results in the highest quality of single-focus lenses.

Additionally, the aperture blades, which are the major factors that determine the shape of the blur, are used with nine blades, and as you can see from the charts posted, F1.8 with an open aperture gives a blur that is almost exactly like a perfect circle. As expected, when you narrow it down, you can see slight stuttering, but up to around F2.8, it seems there is quite little stuttering.

"ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" can be said to be a very blurry and beautiful lens.

Plus, the superior central resolution makes the main character stand out with a high expressive ability

Photograph results on the resolution chart. Even with the open F1.8, the central chart not only has the standard 1 and 1.1 charts, but also a small 0.9 chart, which is also a large part of the chart.

Adding the large and beautiful blur to the extremely high central resolution of "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32", the main subject placed in the center will provide a surprisingly high expressiveness that will make the centered lead (main subject) stand out.

The authors use Koyama Yoshiji's original resolution chart to check the resolution of the lens and camera. This chart derives theoretically possible reference values on the chart taken from the effective number of pixels of the camera, and checks the lens's resolution by looking at the standard values and how far the charts are resolved.

If you narrow it down to F5.6 to F8.0, which is the peak resolution of "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32", the resolution of the peripheral area will also increase significantly. If you are focusing on the resolution of the entire screen, you should narrow it down to this extent.

In the resolution test for "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32", we used the FUJIFILM X-T2 with approximately 24.3 million effective pixels, so the standard chart is between 1 and 1.1. However, in the middle part, the chart of the test results has largely resolved to a smaller 0.9 chart. The surrounding area is softer and has less resolution than the center, but the closer you go, the more it becomes more resolute, and the peak resolution of the entire screen for "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" is F5.6 to F8.0. If you want to increase resolution across the entire screen, we recommend using F5.6 to F8.0. Incidentally, if you cut shorter than the F13, it will cause a decrease in resolution due to excessive aperture, so this is not recommended.

ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 / FUJIFILM X-T2 / Equivalent to 48mm / Aperture priority AE (F1.8, 1/1,400 seconds) / ISO 200 / Exposure compensation: +1.0EV / WB: Auto / Film Simulation: Velvia /
What you should pay attention to is that the moment the focus is on the palm of your hand, the main character changes from son to son's palm. The expressiveness that emphasizes this lead role is the appeal of "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32".

What caught my eye from the results of the resolution test for "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" was that the resolution in the center is overwhelmingly higher than the peripheral area due to the opening aperture. When this high central resolution is combined with the large blur due to the aperture opening, the main subject (main subject) that is placed in the center and in focus stands out as if it were raised from the background. The fact that Planar's high expressiveness is easily achieved, as in the photos shown, is the effect of emphasizing the lead role more as the lead role. This lens is a straight photo with the main character placed in the center and you'll enjoy taking photos with an open F1.8.

Summary: A photo you want to take a straightforward and straightforward photo with an open F1.8

"ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" is a highly expressive "ZEISS Touit 1.8/32" that allows you to take pictures of people and companions on your trip.

ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 / FUJIFILM X-T2 / Equivalent to 48mm / Aperture priority AE (F1.8, 1/3,000 seconds) / ISO 100 / Exposure compensation: -0.7EV / WB: Auto / Film Simulation: Velvia /
My son was riding a large Ferris wheel for the first time in his life. At that time, I recorded what was going outside. A Ferris wheel shake? To prevent this, I have selected a high-speed shutter of 1/3,000 seconds with F1.8.

When I go on a family trip in a camper van or other private place, the author wants to take a picture of the family he is accompanied by. In fact, the scenery I went to was secondary and I couldn't help but want to photograph my three-year-old son. We may be able to take pictures of the scenery next year, but my 3-year-old son is the only time he can take pictures...

However, you should not bring that many lenses with you on a family trip while taking care of your children. If you're going to bring one, the ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 is a very attractive lens. It is lightweight and compact, and is standard focal length that can be used not only for portraits but also for landscapes, and is bright and beautiful, making it no exaggeration to say it's the finest. However, although it has extremely high central resolution, it is not an extremely high resolution lens overall. However, I am overwhelmed by the high expressiveness of the film when filming with an open aperture. ZEISS is an addictive depiction of the lead role that makes you want to call Planar.

The ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 is a lens that many people would like to use, not only for outdoor travel, but also for regular travel and everyday use. But the hurdle is price. At an actual price of less than 100,000 yen, it is a bargain for a ZEISS lens, but considering it as a 50mm F1.8, it is true that it is a little expensive. However, ZEISS lenses with the white and blue ZEISS logos also provide a great psychological advantage when using them on trips.

Photography has a larger mental element than you would expect, so we highly recommend ZEISS lenses that will make you feel better just by owning and using them. What's more, the high expressiveness that allows you to take pictures with the open aperture of the ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 will further increase your excitement, so the ZEISS Touit 1.8/32 can be said to be a small ZEISS Planar, which has a great advantage in both your mind and photography quality. Why not try it out as your first ZEISS lens?
