The mountain climbing season is in full swing, and I'm sure many climbers are heading out to the mountains (I want to go to the mountains too). While the lowlands are experiencing scorching hot days, the 2024 fall/winter season has already begun
This time, I had the opportunity to visit Patagonia's 2024 Fall/Winter exhibition, which was held a little early, and I'd like to share with you some information about their new products
My general impression was that there were so many items I wanted to try on, including a lightweight alpine shell made for cutting-edge climbers, a jacket that you'll become addicted to once you try it on, fleece with excellent heat retention, and a shirt with lots of gimmicks, and I was excited
Now, let's take a look at the exhibition

The M10 is an alpine shell jacket made for cutting-edge climbers
The "M10" Alpine Shell Jacket was featured in the main area of the exhibition, and just by looking at it you can tell it's a product worth paying attention to (when I actually heard the specs they were amazing)
"M10" refers to the "grade" that indicates the difficulty of mixed climbing, where rock and ice alternate one after another
The difficulty level "M10" is a highly challenging field in mixed climbing that only a few top athletes can attempt
The alpine shell jacket, named M10, has been repeatedly tested by top climbers and is an extremely simple jacket with all unnecessary elements removed
A half-zip anorak and a full-zip storm jacket with slightly different specifications
Full-zip M10 Storm Jacket
The lineup includes two types: the M10 Anorak, which is a half-zipper that can be worn over the head, and the M10 Storm Jacket, which is a full zipper (only the M10 Storm Jacket is available for women)
The M10 Anorak uses a new membrane with a much smaller pore size than previous models, a PFAS-free three-layer H2No material that allows for high breathability, and the solvents used in manufacturing are also PFAS-free
The full-zip M10 Storm Jacket and M10 Storm Pants are made with PFAS-free three-layer H2No fabric, but the lining is made of different thicknesses to enhance breathability
The thickness of the fabric varies depending on the model: the M10 Anorak is 20 denier, the M10 Storm Jacket has a 30 denier outer fabric and a 7D lining, and the M10 Storm Pants have a 30 denier outer fabric and a 20 denier lining
The M10 Anorak uses thinner fabric, which accounts for the weight difference (300g for the Anorak and 310g for the Storm Jacket)
If I were to go into detail, it would become quite long, so I will refrain from going into details here, but the M10 series, designed for climbers, is a product that symbolizes Patagonia's brand philosophy, leaving only the essentials and eliminating everything that is not
New to the R1 series! The most warm active fleece, "R1 Thermal"
The "R1" series is renowned as an active fleece
Introducing a new addition to the R1 series. The R1 Thermal is the best in the R1 series in terms of heat retention and heat dissipation
Fine grid structure on the lining
Looking at the lining, it has a finer grid structure than previous R1 jackets, which allows it to retain heat while efficiently releasing heat and moisture
Slim fit but not restrictive
When I actually tried it on, I was surprised at how comfortable it was. That being said, I'm sure many people already know that the R1 is comfortable to wear. Despite the slim fit and high level of comfort, it's stretchy so there's no feeling of pressure
The hood is balaclava-like so you can cover your mouth depending on the environment
Thumb holes. Having them or not makes a big difference in warmth retention
Also, I believe that the only R1 series hoodie that had thumb holes was the R1 Pullover Hoodie, but the R1 Thermal Hoodie is full-zip and has thumb holes (I'm sure many people have been waiting for this)
The R1 Thermal series lineup includes tops such as hoodies, jackets, pullovers (women's only), and crewnecks (men's only)
Bottoms are available for both men and women
I'm a fan of the now-discontinued R2 jacket. I really like the R2, but it can get hot in active situations
The R1 Thermal has a heat retention capacity that falls exactly between the R1 and R2 (current tech type), and is a series that has better heat retention than the R1 and is better suited to wearing in active situations than the R2
"DAS Light Foody" is a synthetic jacket that is as lightweight as down and has excellent heat retention
DAS Light Hoodie with a brand-like coloring
The first thing that surprised me when I put it on was how light it was
It's obvious from the outside that it has excellent heat retention, which meant I imagined it would be heavy when worn, but I was surprised at how light it was
You might imagine it to be a high-quality down jacket, but the DAS Light Hoody is a synthetic jacket
The padding is made of PlumaFill insulation, so it's warm from the moment you put it on (it was hot because it was summer), and if you're in a low-altitude place like the city center, you should be fine wearing just a T-shirt and this DAS Light Hoodie
It's soft and comfortable, yet lightweight, so you can wear it seamlessly both in the mountains and in the city
When I actually wore it, I could feel how warm it was
It has a huge inner pocket that can easily fit gloves and is packable, making it a great jacket not only for winter skiing and snowboarding and snowy mountain climbing, but also for travel
Newly added inner pocket for storing gloves, goggles, etc
The color scheme also reflects the brand's unique style, which is great
Packed with useful gimmicks! "River Rambler Hybrid Sun Foody"
River Rambler Hybrid Sun Hoody
I found the River Rambler Hybrid Sun Hoody very appealing, perhaps because it seems like something I could wear right away when the time came
The name is a bit long and difficult to remember, but the hidden gimmick in this shirt makes me want to try it out
The River Rambler Hybrid Sun Hoody is listed in the fishing wear category, but it's sure to be a useful item not only for fishing but also for mountain climbing and other activities
Although it has the shape of a shirt, it has a detachable hood that protects you from strong sunlight and wind
Snap buttons make it easy to put on and take off
Additionally, if you turn the bottom of the shirt inside out, you'll find a cloth sewn in for wiping your sunglasses
Polarized sunglasses are a must when fishing, but they're also a must-have item when hiking. I was impressed by the gimmick that allows you to wipe them off easily even if they get dirty
It also has many other easy-to-use features, such as pockets on both sides of the chest and loops for hanging sunglasses or forceps
The main material is 100% recycled polyester with a stretch weave, but the sleeves are made of a different fabric from the shoulders to the wrists. It dries quickly and is versatile
There were no buttons on the cuffs, so they were long sleeves and could be easily rolled up
The snap buttons make it easy to put on and take off, and it's highly stretchy and extremely comfortable. Although it's an autumn/winter item, it will likely be useful in the hotter months as well
Other noteworthy items
Nano Air Light Bottom
The Nano Air Light Bottoms are highly insulating yet breathable, making them ideal for both outdoor activities and cold weather. All Nano Air series items are incredibly comfortable, and once you try them on, you won't want to let them go
Long Sleeve Self-Guided Sun Shirt
In addition to the River Rambler Hybrid Sun Hoody introduced earlier, the Long Sleeve Self-Guided Sun Shirt, which can be used as a trail shirt, is also worth checking out
This functional shirt is highly breathable and quick-drying, making it suitable for use not only for fishing and mountain climbing but also for multiple sports, and its design makes it suitable for casual wear around town as well
The Black Hole Wheeled Duffel is now foldable
The Black Hole Wheeled Duffel series, perfect for winter snow trips, can be folded by removing the internal wire, making it less bulky to store in a closet (which is great when storage space is limited)
Interesting updates for backcountry in the Snow category
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take any photos of other items, but in the "Snow" category, which includes winter mountain gear for skiing, snowboarding, and other sliding activities, new pants have been released for "Untracked," backcountry snowwear made from PFAS-free, 100% recycled GORE-TEX 3-layer material
Also, the Stormstride Jacket, a lightweight, easy-to-move-in hard shell jacket for active backcountry use, which has been a favorite since the previous model, has been updated with sustainable fabrics. The Decensionist Snow Pack, another favorite backcountry backpack, has also been updated with improved practicality, and it looks like there will be plenty of noteworthy new releases this winter
summary
As this was an exhibition for Patagonia, a brand I personally love, I was a little more excited than usual to attend
Although there were no major updates for the Fall/Winter 2024 season, it seems there were many items that fulfilled the desires of hikers, runners, skiers, snowboarders, and climbers
In addition to the new products introduced above, there are many other items that can be used seamlessly in a variety of outdoor situations
We'll be trying out new things as we get more information, so don't miss out!
