Patagonia's classic midlayer, the R1, has been updated! This technical fleece is now even more flexible and lightweight
Since its introduction in 1999, the R1 has been well-known as a lightweight, non-sweaty, and compact regulator, and is now being renewed
The main update is that the fabric used varies depending on the part
The Men's R1 Pullover Hoody uses the same Polartec Power Grid material as Capilene Thermal Weight on the back, abdomen, underarms and inner cuffs, while the traditional R1 grid structure is used on the shoulders, chest and elbows, making it a hybrid garment of the traditional R1 and Capilene Thermal Weight
This brings the weight of the R1 Pullover Hoody down to just 289g (men's), less than 300g, a 23g reduction compared to the previous model

The fabric structures of the Men's R1 Pullover Hoodie (left) and the Men's R1 Jacket (right) are different, so it seems like the same R1 can be used for different purposes
The R1 lineup includes four types: jacket, pullover, pullover hoodie, and vest. I tried on the pullover hoodie and found it to be extremely stretchy, offering excellent mobility and comfort. It's also lightweight. It's a highly refined mid-layer that strikes a balance between warmth and breathability while retaining the essential features for use in harsh environments, such as a balaclava-style hood and thumbholes
Although it is positioned as a mid-layer, the thin fabric used on the back and abdomen means it can also be used as underwear. If I were to go into the details, it would take too long, so I won't go into them here, but it looks like it will be a very promising renewal

When I tried it on, I found that it had the same excellent fit and heat retention as the previous R1, but felt lighter. The zipper is long, making it easy to put on and take off
In addition to the R1, R1 Air, and R1 Tech Face, the R1 Series will be expanded to four models with the launch of the R1 Thermal Series in the fall/winter of 2024. While the arrival of the R1 Thermal is exciting, it's also noteworthy that the R1, the longest-selling model in the R1 Series, will be undergoing an evolution
The exquisite sizing and silhouette are evident when you try them on! The Terra Via Pants, known for their ease of movement, have been renamed from the Point Peak Pants and are now available as the improved Men's Terra Via Peak Pants

The Men's Terra Via Peak Pants have a clean, slim silhouette. They have Velcro at the bottom (top right), and can be hooked onto shoelaces to act as gaiters (bottom right), making them highly functional pants
A new addition to the Terra Via pants lineup: Men's Terra Via Peak Pants
These hiking pants are made from a mid-weight, durable fabric with excellent stretch, and feature a removable and adjustable waist belt. The cuffs also feature Velcro so you can tighten the hem to fit your hiking boots or the conditions, and hooks that can be attached to shoelaces like gaiters, making them highly practical
Unfortunately, there were no samples available for the Men's TerraVia Peak Pants, so I wasn't able to try them on, but I was able to try on the Men's TerraVia Alpine Pants instead, and I was impressed by the perfect fit and silhouette. The silhouette was just right, neither too slim nor too wide, and when I moved around, the stretch was effective, so it didn't get in the way of my movements and I could easily lift my legs

I tried on the Men's TerraVia Alpine Pants and was thrilled with how comfortable and easy they were to move in
While the overall texture is supple, the fabric is thicker around the hips and hem for durability, while the back of the knees, which are less likely to chafe, are made of thinner fabric, making it comfortable to wear for long periods of time
There are three types of hiking pants in the Terra Via lineup, and we at Outdoor Gearzine are curious to know the features and uses of each. We hope to try them out and compare them if we have the chance in the future
New active insulation from the NanoAir series: NanoAir Ultralight

This is the latest release from the Nano Air series, which offers a comfortable fit and a great balance of warmth and breathability that you'll never want to let go of once you've experienced it
In addition to the existing NanoAir with 60g full-range insulation and NanoAir Hybrid with 40g full-range insulation, the new NanoAir Ultralight series now features 20g full-range insulation. While this is the thinnest insulation in the series, it offers increased breathability and portability, making it a versatile piece that can be worn as activewear in the chilly early spring, late fall, and early winter, and as cold weather gear in the hot summer months. Another attractive feature is its light weight of 249g (men's)

The cuffs are made of Capilene Cool Lightweight fabric, making them easy to roll up
The lineup consists of two items: a full-zip hoodie and a pullover. The pullover, which does not have a hood, was also quite appealing. The clutter caused by a hood can be a pain when layering. If you prioritize keeping your core warm, the pullover seems like a good option. With no hood and a shorter zipper, it is lighter at 218g (men's)

Pullover. The double zipper improves breathability and the long zipper makes it easy to put on and take off
The TerraVia Pack 36L is a lightweight backpack that doesn't compromise on comfort

The Terra Via Pack 36L features a spring-like yellow color. It fits perfectly when worn
The TerraVia Pack 36L has been redesigned as a roll-up closure backpack. It's incredibly light, weighing just 1,066g, and is perfect for fast hikers and UL hikers
The capacity is 36L, but the roll-up streamer has plenty of room, so it feels larger than it actually is. It's highly expandable, and by making full use of the roll-top closure and side compression, it seems like it could be used for a wide range of activities, from day hikes to overnight stays
The back and shoulders are made of mesh to increase breathability, and the hip belt with pockets allows you to carry the load firmly on your hips, making it lightweight yet easy to carry and well-balanced
When you put it on, it fits well and is recommended for people who run fast or walk long distances
There aren't many backpacks on the market that have this much capacity yet are great for running. You can choose from S, M, and L sizes, so you can find the perfect size to suit your body type

The back and shoulder areas are designed for breathability, making it lightweight without sacrificing comfort
Seamlessly fit in the mountains, rivers, and cities. Patagonia's fly fishing shirts are hot!
The Patagonia Men's Long Sleeve Self-Guided Hike Shirt is known for its high-quality design that can be worn both in the city and on the mountain. Did you know that a new lineup has been added to the Patagonia shirt lineup?
It was released for the Fall/Winter 2024 season. When I first saw it, I was blown away by the high functionality and design of the Men's River Rambler Hybrid Sun Hoody. I introduced it when I reported on the Fall/Winter exhibition, but I'd like to introduce it again before the upcoming hiking season

Men's River Rambler Hybrid Sun Hoody (left), Men's Long Sleeve Self-Guided Hike Shirt (right)
The Men's River Rambler Hybrid Sun Hoody was originally released in the fly fishing category, but it's also perfect for mountain use. It's packed with features to make it comfortable for the wearer, including a removable hood. When the sun is strong or the wind is strong, you can pull it up to protect from UV rays and wind, or when you're heading off the trail and heading into town, you can remove the hood and use it like a regular shirt
Other convenient features include raglan sleeves that prevent seams from interfering when wearing a backpack, and loops for hanging sunglasses or forceps (a type of pliers used in fishing)
We have a feeling this will become a new standard trail shirt alongside the classic Men's Long Sleeve Self-Guided Hike Shirt
Other noteworthy items
The mountain bike category products offer excellent arm movement, making them perfect for mountain stream fishing!

The Men's Dirt Roamer Storm Jacket features a roomy arm area and a slim waist
Although I don't ride mountain bikes, when I put it on, I noticed that it had a slightly loose fit around the arms and a slim fit around the waist. This is for mountain bikes, which are fast, so it seems designed to reduce flapping in the wind while not restricting arm movement when pushing the pedals, and I felt that it might be suitable for headwater fishing
I do tenkara fishing (a simple traditional Japanese fishing method using only a fly and a fishing rod), and in the headwaters of rivers I sometimes have to go off the beaten path, wading through bushes and around waterfalls. For this reason, I prefer clothing that fits snugly to avoid getting caught on bushes or tree branches, and I also want room around the arms as I move my arms a lot when casting or reeling in. This is a product that is perfect for headwater fishing. The pocket on the back also seems like a good place to store flys and other gear
Trail running shorts with excellent mobility and fit

These shorts are currently the most popular in the trail running category. Their unique appearance makes it hard to imagine what they will look like when worn, but they actually fit like tights around the thighs and waist, with a little more room in the hips and crotch to reduce tightness, improving comfort while still maintaining a tight-fitting feel
Patagonia Provisions' original natural alcoholic beverage is also a must-have for those wanting to take it to the mountains

A 150ml single-serving size will also be available for easy portability
Finally, we will introduce sake from Patagonia Provisions, a food collection created by Patagonia
I knew they made beer and food, but now they're also making sake. The sakes I tried were called "Yamamori" and "Hand."
Yamamori has a mellow taste, while Shigeto has a slightly dry impression. I was able to taste both sake brewed in 2023 and 2024, and by aging for a year, the sake had a deeper flavor and was very enjoyable
It was a very delicious sake, so if you're a sake lover, be sure to check it out. Until now, it was only available in 720ml size, but from March, a 150ml single serving size will also be available, so it's recommended for people who want to take it to the mountains to enjoy, or for people who want to try sake
The world of outdoor gear is a swamp, but it seems the world of sake is also a swamp. This one seems to be deep as well
summary
The focus was on technical wear
The new products introduced in this article will be available for sale on the Patagonia website starting Thursday, February 6th, and at Patagonia stores starting Thursday, February 20th for the spring/summer 2025 season
Although the products are categorized into categories such as hiking, mountain biking, trail running, and fly fishing, I felt that there were many products that could be used seamlessly in a variety of outdoor scenes
OutdoorGearzine will be testing new products that Patagonia will be releasing in 2025, so stay tuned for more information!
