My first encounter with the outdoors came when I was in the third or fourth grade of elementary school, studying abroad on a ranch in Soma County, Fukushima Prefecture (now Minamisoma City). While playing outdoors was probably just a normal part of everyday life for a rural elementary school student, I remember that for someone who had only ever lived in Tokyo up until that point, every day was fresh and full of excitement. What was decisive was when, as a student, I became so immersed in canyoning and mountain skiing with the Wandervogel club that I took a year off school. This amazing adventure experience completely overturned my concept of what "mountain climbing" was, and it opened a huge door to the world of the outdoors
After that, I moved to the United States for a while and traveled to many national parks there. There, I deeply absorbed the atmosphere of a free and open outdoor culture that respects all nature lovers and warmly welcomes everyone. As a result, I felt that it was my role to convey the rich value of the outdoors to more people, and so I decided to start this website
For the past nine years, I've been reviewing mountain gear full-time, spending over 100 days a year in the mountains and constantly checking out new mountain gear every season. Until the COVID-19 pandemic, I also traveled to outdoor exhibitions in North America and Europe every season to cover the latest developments in the global outdoor industry. From the start until now, as per the site's policy, I have continued to create and disseminate content without receiving any specific sponsorship, and maintain my independence in the content of individual items and review articles I receive.
