New technology you've never experienced before, innovative design you've never seen before
The Outdoor Retailer Winter Market (OR), the largest outdoor equipment trade fair in the United States, held every January in Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah, was held with great fanfare once again this year!
Held twice a year, once in summer and once in winter, I finally managed to cover it last summer, where over 1,000 outdoor manufacturers, large and small, from all over the world gather to showcase new products in anticipation of the coming season. A video was already uploaded to YouTube showing the demo area, which is separate from the main downtown venue and where people can casually try on and test ride products.
So, we reported at OR Winter last year , this time we would like to pick out and summarize the notable items that our editorial team thinks are not to be missed from among the futuristic outdoor gear that was unveiled for the first time at the event.
Apparel
Black Diamond Helio Shell
Black Diamond has released its lightest (370g) hard shell jacket, made with Gore C-KNIT, a new GORE-TEX material introduced last year
Millet Trilogy Synthesis Down Hoodie
The latest insulation from Millet's expedition line, Trilogy, to be released next fall and winter is an ambitious product that is lighter, warmer, and stronger thanks to the company's new technology, Synthesis, which allows for seamless baffles (air chambers)
Patagonia Stretch Nano Storm Jacket
Patagonia's new outer jacket is a waterproof, breathable hard shell padded with "FullRange Stretch Insulation," a breathable stretch insulation material also used in the "Nano Air Jacket," a new wave of mid-layer jackets that have been making waves in recent years. It is intended as a belay jacket for winter climbing
Arc'teryx Alpha SV
The Alpha SV, known as the most durable and maneuverable flagship model among Arc'teryx's hard shells, has been renewed for next season to be even lighter and more durable
Shoes
LaSportiva Trango TRK Leather GTX
My personal favorite, Sportiva, has released another highly anticipated new product. The Trango series, designed for hard trekking and alpine climbing, now includes a new, comfortable hiking boot that can withstand long-distance hikes and treks, from the Annapurna Circuit to the Appalachian Trail

Backpack Edition
Osprey Kamber / Kresta
Osprey's first full-fledged backcountry backpack is optimized for backcountry use, with an avalanche airbag system, attachments for skis, poles, helmets, snow shovels, and more, as well as waterproof pockets. Available in 22 and 42 liters
Bergans of Norway Helium Pro
We reported on this in OR Summer 2015 , but Bergance's Helium series of backpacks, which are hard to find in Japan, has now added a new alpine line. Made with the cooperation of experienced guides, this backpack is highly intriguing not only for its convenient attachments, but also for its Scandinavian-inspired design.
Winter Gear
Arc'teryx Procline Carbon Boot
Arc'teryx, which just made its debut in hiking shoes last year, has now expanded into ski touring boots. The boots still have the same crazy look as always, with extremely simple buckles and insteps that make them look like plastic boots, and I can't help but get excited
Fischer Travers Carbon Lite
Finally, a touring boot weighing less than 1kg per boot is here. It features cutting-edge technology and functionality, including the Boa® closure system, which has become popular in recent years, and an 80° range of motion
BCA Shaxe Tech
As you can see from the photo, this is a unique snow shovel that can be used as both a snow shovel and an ice axe, making it extremely lightweight and compact
Pieps Micro Beacon
This avalanche beacon is the smallest and lightest among the models equipped with triple antennas with high reception sensitivity, which are becoming mainstream these days
Black Diamond Helio Fixed-Length Ski Pole
Black Diamond's new carbon ski poles are an unprecedented lightness, weighing just 255 grams. To give you an idea, each pole weighs about the same as an iPhone 6
Other Gear
HydroHeat Flameless Cooker
Want to eat hot pasta without having to bring a stove? The HydroHeat Flameless Cooker will answer that need
Petzl NAO+
The NAO+ from Petzl, a leading headlamp manufacturer, is even brighter than the current model, and the original app, MyPetzl Light, allows you to check the remaining battery level and adjust the brightness in real time
