Review: NEMO Dagger Storm 2P It's dome-shaped, yet spacious interior! Mountain tent boasts outstanding livability and good balance

Do you want to take lightness or comfort and strength? Choosing a tent is always a troubling problem. This applies to any gear, but durable and comfortable gear tends to be heavy and vice versa.

A while ago, when we were competing for the most lightweight tents, many pointy, ultra-lightweight tents were seen that didn't look to be comfortable. However, recently, it seems that the trend is to have a high-quality tent that has been re-shaking and has a balanced, comfortable and robustness without sacrificing lightness. One of the most representative examples of comfortable mountain tents with fewer drawbacks is NEMO's newly updated Dagger Storm.

This tent is highly balanced and easy to use, with a tent for two people that is reasonably lightweight and has excellent stability unique to a dome shape. It's been a little late, about six months since it was released, but I'll send you a review of what I actually tried using it.

The rough features of Dagger Storm 2P

The appeal is its practical new ideas and lightweight design that emphasize ease of use. The Dagger Storm 2P NEMO 's three-season backpacking tent, always breathes fresh air into outdoor gear , is an irregular dome-shaped tent designed with the assumption that two people can enjoy a comfortable stay. The pole shape has been ingenuous, ensuring a spacious interior space that even two people can feel comfortable, while also providing lightweight, weather resistant, and convenient storage parts, making it a very good balance.

Detailed review

The parts are the main body, fly, pole, pegs and guyline. There are three storage bags, and can be stored separately in three

Storage can be divided into three parts: main unit, fly pole, peg, and gailine.

The storage bag for the main body and fly is doubled, and if you stretch it you can store the poles together. It's convenient because you can store everything in bulk for long periods of storage or when there is plenty of storage space for packing.

You can also store everything together in one place.

The pole is a Fatherlite NSL Green made by DAC, and is connected to one by one using a unique joint, and when folded, it becomes a one-piece piece. The yellow part and gray are color coded, making it easy to see the direction and other aspects to set up intuitively.

The pole is one piece and is very compact when folded.

Eight aluminum pegs come with them. With these 8, you can secure the main body and fly. It comes with four Guy Lines, but you will need extra pegs to use it.

Eight pegs and four Guylines are included.

The weight is the lowest weight (626 g , 413 g , 450 g ), and the actual measured value is 1,489 g and below g Each peg 17g , and the minimum required number of 8 pegs was 134g . The 4 pieces of Guyline cost 31g. Each storage bag consists of 36g , 13g of , and 8g of pegs When all the pegs, storage bags and Guylines are combined, it is 1,711g, which is about the same value as the official weight of 1,750g, and although the actual measured weight tends to be heavier than the official standard, it is very popular.

I like the ease of setup, with a detailed detail

There are six connections between the main body and the pole, but first connect the four bottom parts to the pole. The pole is a one-piece dress, but when unfolded it has a very unique shape. This structure is a very ingenious feature to expand the interior space.

There are six connections. First, connect the four bottom areas.

The tip of the pole is rounded, making it easy to connect to the main unit.

The connection between the pole and the main unit can be connected with just one click.

If you connect four points and hang the hook on the main unit, it will stand up independently for now, but a yellow pole remains. This pole is one of the ways to expand the interior space.

The rest is a yellow pole that stretches sideways. This pole greatly expands the interior space.

If you connect this pole in the same way, the headroom space will be very wide. The difference between the traditional dome-shaped joint poles is that the sides are raised more vertically by the joint poles on both ends of the long side and the poles extending to the short side, resulting in a dramatic expansion of spaces other than the top of the tent.

Look at the tent from above. You can see that there is an overwhelming difference in the space above the head, between the poles on the sides of the al and the nasi.

Take a look at the tent from the side. The walls at both ends of the long side are warped, making the space appear larger than the typical dome shape.

A pole stood up at an angle close to vertical. This pre-bended pole makes the room very spacious, especially overhead space.

All you have to do is cover it with a fry.

It has a form that resembles a creeping shape on earth that seems to be resistant to wind and rain.

Highly livable, overturning the conventional wisdom of dome-shaped tents

There are two entrances on both long sides, allowing two people to enter and exit from each other. Not only is it less stressful than a tent for two people with only one entrance, but it also has a sense of openness and psychological breadth.

There are two large entrances on the long side, so even if two people use it, there is little stress when entering and leaving.

The entrance is also made of mesh, making it very useful when you want to ensure breathability or when it's hot. If both entrances are made of mesh, it will be comfortable without any air inside.

The entrance is a wide mesh panel.

Being a regular tent makes you even more impressed with the indoor space. The bottom is 127cm x 229cm, which is not particularly large for a two-person tent, but the size above your head makes you feel even more comfortable than its specs. Even if you sit in the corner, it is a certain height to the ceiling, so it's less stressful. It's not a uselessly large tent, but it's a stunningly built piece that gives the limited space a feel that is larger than you would expect.

The bottom area is just right for two people.

The ceiling has multiple loops, so it can be used in a variety of ways, such as hanging ropes or hanging objects. Incidentally, ceiling gear lofts are available as accessories in the home country, but it appears that they are not available in Japan. There are a total of six pockets on the sides and ceiling, making it useful for organizing your belongings.

It has two pockets on the edge and one pocket on the top. It is also available for the same use on the other side, with a total of six pockets.

The size of all rooms is also worth noting. Even when the fries are fully closed, all individually are spacious, so you can use the room more spaciously by not only cooking but also leaving your bags and luggage in place.

The spacious vestibule can be used for a wide range of purposes, from cooking to luggage storage.

Impressions of actually using it

It's extremely comfortable anyway. In a normal tent, the more you go over your head, the smaller the space above you, but thanks to the standing side walls, the space above you are well maintained. In a normal mountain tent, even if it is for two people, the distance between them is very close, and if they roll over in bed, they would wake up the person next to them, but this Dagger Storm 2P allows two people to spend time with ease.

It's spacious enough to not interfere with each other even when they're side by side.

The feeling of openness when you lie down with both entrances open is especially exceptional.

Opening both entrances gives you a very open feel.

The entrance is also very spacious, so it's spacious and stress-free when cooking from inside the tent or working on anything. This area is a great benefit that you will find when using a tent with an entrance on the long side.

By rolling the fly up to the fullest, you can make the most of the way in front of the entrance.

Of the six pockets in the room, two near the ceiling, are made of special mesh fabric that diffuses light, and when you put in a headlamp, it will diffuse the light throughout the tent. Turn on the headlights of about 150 lumens and light them up, and the light spread throughout the tent, which was also more convenient than I thought. Every time I find such a small detail, I am impressed by NEMO.

I put a headlight of about 150 lumens in my pocket and turned it on. Light is spreading throughout the tent.

Still, the points that bothered me

There was nothing to say about comfort and ease of use in mild weather, but the fly structure felt a bit troubling. The fly can be extended to the ground on the long side, but the fly on the short side is raised high, making it breathable, but it is easily stoked by the wind, and if the rain is strong, the inner tent can get quite wet due to water splashing from the ground. Of course, the inner tent is also waterproof, so it will not get flooded, but when your feet or hands hit you will feel cold, and if it gets wet in winter, the inner tent may freeze.

The fly on the short side is raised from the ground. To prevent water from flooding, the inner tent is waterproof at the height of the fly.

Also, regarding ventilation, when the entrance is closed, you cannot expect much ventilation with a tangled stick. You need to be careful about this as well.

Even if you close the fly, the ventilation with a rain cover will help to air out.

This vent can also be opened and closed from the inside of the tent.

Even when the fly is closed, it can be opened and closed from the inside.

Summary: Recommended for people like this

Although it is light, it is heavier than the Tani 2P , and the Hornet Storm 2P , which are heavy, so it cannot be said to be an ultra-lightweight tent. However, the high level of comfort inhabiting is much different. This feature is not too heavy compared to models from other manufacturers, and is still lighter than models from other manufacturers, so this is quite attractive.

One of the charms of dome-shaped tents is that they have relatively few drawbacks and are safe for outdoor activities such as mountain climbing. Based on this appeal, Dagger Storm pursues lighter and more livability. This will probably bring unparalleled satisfaction to greedy hikers who can't throw this out of their own.
