Review: NEMO Daggerstorm 2P - A dome-shaped tent with a spacious interior! A mountain tent that boasts outstanding livability and balance
Lightweight or comfortable and durable? This is always a tough decision when choosing a tent. As with any gear, durable and comfortable gear tends to be heavy, and vice versa
Not long ago, when the competition was all about lightness, many ultra-light tents were seen that ignored comfort. However, recently, there seems to be a backlash, and the trend is toward superior tents that achieve a good balance of comfort and durability without sacrificing lightness. One prime example of such a comfortable mountain tent with few drawbacks is NEMO's newly updated Daggerstorm
It's a highly balanced tent with excellent usability, including livability and ease of erection, as well as being reasonably lightweight for a two-person tent and boasting the stability that only a dome-shaped tent can offer. Although it's a little late, about six months after its release, I'd like to share my review after actually using it

Detailed Review
The parts are the main body, fly, poles, pegs, and guy lines. There are three storage bags, which can be used to store the main body/fly, poles, and pegs/guy lines separately .

Storage is divided into three sections: main body, fly, poles, pegs, and guy lines
The storage bag for the main body and flies is double-layered, and can be extended to store the poles as well. This is convenient for long-term storage or when you have extra space in your packing, as you can store everything together in one place

You can also store everything together in one place
The poles are Fatherlite NSL Green made by DAC, and are connected together with a unique joint that folds into one piece. The poles are color-coded yellow and gray, making it easy to see which way they are facing and easy to set up intuitively

The pole is one piece and folds up very compactly
Eight aluminum pegs are included. These eight are enough to secure the tent and fly. Four guy lines are also included, but you will need extra pegs to use them

Comes with 8 pegs and 4 guy lines
The minimum weight ( 626g 413g fly 450g poles ) was measured at 1489g, just under 1500g. Each peg weighs 17g , so for the minimum required number of eight it would be 134g . Four guy lines weigh 31g. Each storage bag weighs 36g , 13g , and 8g pegs The total weight including pegs, storage bag, and guy lines is 1711g, which is almost the same as the official weight of 1750g, which is quite impressive considering that actual weights tend to be heavier than the official weight.
I was impressed with the ease of setup, with attention to detail
There are a total of six points where the main body connects to the pole, but first connect the four points on the bottom to the pole. The pole is one piece, but when unfolded it has a very unique shape. This structure is a key point that is very well designed to expand the interior space

There are six connection points. First, connect the four points on the bottom side
The tip of the pole is rounded, making it easy to connect to the main unit

The pole and main body can be connected with just one click
Once you connect the four points and hang the hook on the main body, it will stand on its own, but the yellow pole will remain. This pole is one of the ways to expand the interior space

The remaining part is a yellow pole that extends horizontally, which greatly expands the interior space
If you connect these poles in the same way, the overhead space will be greatly expanded. The difference from the traditional dome type is that the joint poles on both long sides are pre-bent, and the poles extending from the short sides make the sides stand up more vertically, dramatically expanding the space outside the area near the peak of the tent

Looking at the tent from above, you can see the huge difference in headroom between a tent with and without horizontal poles

Looking at the tent from the side, the walls on both long sides are curved up, making the space appear larger than a typical dome-shaped tent

The pole stands at a nearly vertical angle. This pre-curved shape of the pole provides a very spacious interior, especially headroom
All that's left to do is put the fly on and it's done

It has a form that crawls along the ground and looks very resistant to wind and rain
High level of livability that overturns conventional wisdom about dome tents
There are two entrances on both long sides, allowing two people to enter and exit through each. This is not only less stressful than a two-person tent with only one entrance, but also gives a sense of openness and spaciousness

There are two large entrances on the long sides, so even if two people use it, there is almost no stress when entering and exiting
The entrance can also be used as a mesh, which is very useful when you want to ensure breathability or when it's hot. If you leave both entrances as mesh, you can keep the air from getting trapped and stay comfortable

The entrance is a wide mesh panel
If you're used to regular tents, you'll be especially impressed by the interior space. The base is 127cm x 229cm, which isn't particularly spacious for a two-person tent, but the headroom is generous enough to make it feel more comfortable than its specs suggest. Even if you sit in the corner, there's still a certain amount of height to the ceiling, so it's less stressful. It's not an unnecessarily large tent, but it's beautifully designed to give you a sense of spaciousness beyond your expectations given the limited space

The base area is just the right size for two people
The ceiling is equipped with several loops, which can be used for various purposes, such as stringing ropes or hanging items. Incidentally, a gear loft for the ceiling is sold as an accessory in the UK, but it does not appear to be available in Japan. There are a total of six pockets on the sides and ceiling, which are useful for organizing your belongings

There are two pockets on the sides and one on top, and the same on the other side for a total of six pockets
The spaciousness of all the rooms is also noteworthy. Even when the flies are fully closed, each room is spacious, allowing you to use the interior space even more widely, not only for cooking but also for storing bags and luggage

The spacious vestibule can be used for a wide range of purposes, from cooking to storing luggage
Actual impressions after using it
It's extremely comfortable. In normal tents, the headroom gets smaller as you go up, but thanks to the upright side walls, the headroom is maintained perfectly. In normal mountain tents, even if they're designed for two people, the distance between the occupants is so close that turning over can wake the person next to you, but the Daggerstorm 2P can comfortably accommodate two people

It's spacious enough that two people can sit side by side without interfering with each other
The feeling of openness when you lie down with both entrances open is particularly special

When both entrances are open, it feels very open
The entrance is also very wide, so cooking or doing other work from inside the tent is spacious and stress-free. This is a major advantage of using a tent with an entrance on the long side

By reeling the fly in as far as it will go, you can make the most of the area in front of the entrance
Of the six pockets inside, two near the ceiling are made with a special mesh fabric that diffuses light, so when you put a headlamp inside, it spreads the light throughout the tent. When I put a 150-lumen headlamp in and turned it on, the light spread throughout the tent, which was even more convenient than I expected. Every time I find these little details, I'm impressed by NEMO

I put a 150 lumen headlamp in my pocket and turned it on. The light spread throughout the tent
Still, the point I noticed
There was nothing to complain about the comfort and ease of use in calm weather, but the fly structure was a bit of a problem. The long side allows the fly to stretch down to the ground, but the short side is raised high, which means that while it's breathable, it's easily blown around by the wind, and in heavy rain, the inner tent gets quite wet from water splashing up from the ground. Of course, the bottom fabric of the inner tent is set high and waterproof, so it won't get soaked, but it will feel cold when your feet or hands touch it, and there's also the risk that the inner tent could freeze if it gets wet in winter

The fly on the short side is higher off the ground, and the inner tent is waterproof up to the height of the fly to prevent water from seeping in
Also, when it comes to ventilation, if the entrance is closed, you cannot expect much ventilation from the brace, so you need to be careful about that too

Even when the fly is closed, the ventilation with rain cover allows air to flow
This vent can also be opened and closed from inside the tent

It can be opened and closed from the inside even when the fly is closed
Summary: Recommended for these people
Although it is light, the Tani 2P and Hornet Storm 2P , and cannot be called an ultra-lightweight tent. However, the level of comfort is unmatched. It is not too heavy compared to models from other manufacturers, and is still in the light category, making this a very attractive feature.
One of the attractions of dome tents is that they have relatively few drawbacks and are weatherproof enough for serious outdoor activities like mountain climbing, but the Daggerstorm builds on that appeal with an even lighter, more comfortable tent. For the demanding hiker who can't give up everything, this tent is sure to provide the ultimate satisfaction
