Patagonia Endless Run Shorts & Multi-Trails Shorts Review: Running-focused "race shorts" and multi-purpose "refreshing shorts" will keep you covered this summer, from the city to the trails

It took a lot of courage for someone like me who is a former mountain climber, but when I actually tried it, I found that ``going to the mountains in shorts'' was quite a fun experience

As I wrote in a previous review, I used to be adamant about wearing long pants in the mountains for fear of exposing my skin, but due to the extreme heat and changing preferences such as fast hiking and trail running, I have increasingly started wearing running shorts for day trips to low mountains and trail running over the past few years. While it is true that protection is reduced, the freedom of movement and exhilaration you get in exchange for that is hard to stop once you get used to it

My favorite shorts up until now have been Patagonia's Strider Pro Shorts , but naturally, no matter how much I like them, I don't think that one pair will cover every situation. Even within the narrow category of running shorts, there are naturally many optimal solutions depending on the season and situation.

the Endless Run Shorts , a model from Patagonia's trail running shorts lineup that I've been interested in for a while, Multi Trails Shorts , which are more specialized for a specific genre and are versatile enough to suit a wide range of situations.I'll be sharing my review of the shorts after using them for trail running, hiking, and everyday use.

Endless Run Shorts 6-inch: Detailed Review

The fit is just like sports tights. The one-piece construction combines three types of fabric for a comfortable fit and breathability/quick drying, reducing chafing and supporting high-intensity activities

the Endless Run Shorts, my first reaction was, "What is this?" I'm sure that if you look at the photo above, many people will have the same confused reaction as me. In some places, they look almost like short tights or spats. However, when viewed from the front, some parts look like shorts. I know that they are positioned as proper running shorts, but they are still unknown pants in the sense that I have no idea how they will feel when I wear them. So, why not?

Finally, when I put them on, it finally made sense. The fit when you put them on is basically that of tights. Looking closely, I noticed that a highly stretchy knit fabric like tights was mapped from the bottom of the pants to the buttocks at the back, which fit snugly along the body

But interestingly, they are actually far more comfortable than regular leggings. The secret lies in the two-layer structure of the front panel

The front panel, the outer fabric you can see from the outside, is made of Pertex Quantum Air nylon, which is windproof, water-repellent, durable, and breathable, blocking wind and abrasion while allowing moisture inside to escape easily. The back side, which comes into contact with the skin, is made of a thin, highly stretchable and breathable liner-like fabric (see photo below), which not only provides a comfortable feel and fit but also reduces stuffiness. Basically, it fits like tights, while at the same time providing the perfect balance of protection, feel, comfort, and looks

The tights are made from lightweight, stretchy nylon (a post-consumer material made from recycled fishing nets) blended with 26% polyurethane. The highly stretchable knit fits snugly to the body without the tightness or stress of compression tights. They also dry quickly, so they don't stick to your skin even when you sweat

The soft, stretchy, and quick-drying waistband provided a comfortable fit without any binding or looseness even during long runs. The outer drawcord can also be adjusted

The wonderful stress-free pattern even with a large action

Thanks to this carefully calculated fabric structure and cut, the lower body movement is extremely smooth while feeling the pleasant breeze, and yet the core feels supported just like when wearing spats, giving a sense of comfort while moving, high performance, and a sense of reduced strain on the body.It also has the effect of suppressing muscle shaking, which is expected to reduce fatigue

Enough gel and small item pockets for a race

True to its concept of being designed for mountain athletes, the Endless Run Shorts don't have a wealth of storage that would get in the way of your run. However, even though they're stripped down, the pockets are of sufficient quality and quantity to provide comfortable support on long distances and long runs

There's a deep, stretchy pocket on each side. They're large and deep enough to fit not only large and small gels, but even smartphones and soft flasks, making them extremely versatile (see photo below). The stretchy material holds the contents securely in place, so when you put gels in, they don't move around much while you're running. However, while a smartphone or flask can fit, their weight does pull them down a bit

There is one stretch mesh pocket with the opening sewn in the middle on the back. This pocket can hold gel gel, card holders, keys, etc. (see photo below). It's a bit hard to fit a smartphone

The entire garment is treated with DWR (durable water repellent), but the water repellency is not great

The pants are also treated with a water-repellent (DWR) finish, which is essential for outdoor bottoms, and they repel light splashes of water and dirt (see photo below)

However, the strength and durability were somewhat less than I expected, which is true of all water-repellent treatments these days, but I personally would like to see more technological advances in this area. That said, since the fabric is quick-drying, even if water penetrated, it dried quickly, so I didn't have to worry about my pants getting wet or stuffy

Multi Trails Shorts 6-inch: Detailed Review

The liner provides a snug fit, and the outer fabric is lightweight and highly breathable, allowing for easy movement and a refreshing wearing experience

The Multi Trails Shorts are simple running shorts with a much more conventional appearance than Endless Run Shorts experienced the basic comfort of Patagonia shorts with the Strider Pro Shorts the Strider Pro , so it's even more comfortable.

The fabric is a lightweight, breathable, quick-drying recycled polyester (sourced from coastal communities at risk of plastic pollution and certified by Ocean Cycle) blended with 10% elastane. It's incredibly light and flexible, with ample four-way stretch, so it won't cling to your skin even when you sweat, and you won't feel any restrictions or restrictions on movement

Built-in boxer shorts liner with excellent moisture wicking and quick drying properties

The inner liner is made of a polyester material with a grid pattern, excellent moisture absorption, quick drying, and stretch. The moderate stretch makes it completely comfortable to wear without underwear. Unlike the Strider Pro briefs, the boxer shorts are a new style. It seems that they prioritize comfort not only during activities but also in more relaxed situations

In any case, there was absolutely no resistance when lifting my legs, and they supported smooth and comfortable movement. The excellent breathability also allows for high sweat wicking, keeping me dry at all times and preventing chafing. The pants are treated with HeiQ Mint deodorizing, so you don't have to worry about odors!

The waist is fully covered with a flat elastic band and can also be adjusted with a drawcord. As always, the careful construction is comfortable, soft, and provides a high level of fit with no roughness

The wonderful stress-free pattern even with a large action

The lightweight fit, excellent cut, and outstanding stretchability give you an exceptional feeling of freshness and freedom during activities. Even when you lift or open your legs, it feels as if you're not wearing anything at all, which is simply amazing

What's more, the natural look and comfortable feel that doesn't make you feel stuffy make these shoes highly versatile and easy to use, allowing them to blend naturally into a wide range of situations, whether you're walking, running, or even just relaxing during leisure activities

The pockets are more for everyday use and hiking than for activities

These shorts are called "Multi-Trails," so they're not just specialized for trail running, but are designed to cover a wide range of activities

This is clearly demonstrated by the zipper pockets on each side (see photo below). They are deep and spacious enough to fit even a large smartphone, making them very easy to use. However, this design means they tend to shake around while running, so they may not be suitable for those who carry a lot of stuff in their pockets. On the other hand, they are convenient and easy to use for hiking, camping, and everyday situations where there is less intense movement, giving us a glimpse into the versatility of these shorts, which are designed for a variety of situations

There is one snap button pocket on the back (see photo below), which is also just big enough to fit a smartphone

The back pocket is packable and can be folded up into a compact size, and it also has a loop that can be used as a key loop or carabiner loop, which shows that this model is not only designed to be worn for daily training and races, but also to be carried on various trips

The fabric is durable and water-repellent

As I pointed out in my previous review of the Strider Pro, this model, which uses the same fabric, also has some issues. You need to be a little careful about its durability against abrasion. Constant wear and tear from a backpack or other item can cause pilling. I have my doubts about its long-lasting durability under tough use. And, like the Endless Run Shorts, the water-repellent (DWR) treatment isn't something I'd be overly confident in

Summary: Everything you need to keep running in the heat and in nature

The Endless Run Shorts only provide the comfort needed for a full run, but also offer support functions to improve performance, such as core stability and fatigue reduction, while the Multi Trails Shorts are designed to be worn naturally for a wide range of outdoor activities, not just running, such as hiking, camping and leisure. These running shorts with contrasting characteristics, but they both share a common concept: they are lightweight, highly comfortable, highly practical and well-made, so you can rest assured that they are still made with care.

If you're looking for shorts for high-intensity mountain activities, you won't regret either choice, but if you're looking for even higher performance, I the Endless Run Shorts are the better choice. The support you feel when running is completely different. And if you want a pair of shorts to cover all your short needs, the Multi Trails Shorts are the answer. They can be used seamlessly in a wide range of situations, from summer mountain climbing approaches to full-scale hiking, outdoor travel, water sports, and summer festivals, both in the mountains and in the city. They're also perfect for beginners looking for their first pair of outdoor shorts. Survive this year's heatwaves with the perfect shorts for your style and purpose.
