Leaving Azuma Base, Plylet/Azuma Kitchen behind
Previous visit
Next, I'll head to the event you told me about
This time we will be taking a stroll around the city of Kiryu, mainly in the northern area from JR Kiryu Station
When certain events are held, parking lots at universities and other institutions are open to the public, so we use those
First, head to Kiryu Tenmangu Shrine, which is next to the parking lot
Oh my, Tenmangu Shrine is filled with both familiar and unfamiliar items, mainly antiques and textiles!
This event is called the Tenmangu Folk Goods and Antiques Market and is held on the first Saturday of every month
There seem to be many vendors and the market is filled with a variety of items other than antiques
I thought it was a lovely sight, very Kiryu-like, to see young people wearing adapted kimonos browsing the shops
If you look carefully, you might find some hidden gems

Now let's go through Tenmangu Shrine and head out onto the road to the south
As soon as you leave Tenmangu Shrine, there's a bakery on your left. I later discovered that Kiryu has a strangely large number of bakeries, greengrocers, and clothing boutiques. It's quite unusual to see competitors coexisting in such close proximity. There are also a number of standard cafes
Next to the bakery is Ichinoyu, a public bathhouse that has been doing well recently
I'm going to take a bath later
If you continue straight ahead, you'll see information about another event! It seems to be happening in various places
When you come to a region like this, you will come across some unique gas stations, and I personally love their designs and find myself staring at them
Here's another announcement about the event mentioned earlier! This is Garakuta Market, which sells miscellaneous goods, pottery, art, old books, etc.
When I got to the corner of the sign, I saw the invitation "Go ahead..."
This appears to be a gallery and cafe that has been repurposed from a historic building
The aroma of spicy curry is irresistible!
But he just ate a rice ball and flipped it over
There's no end in sight and we're running out of time, so we cross the road and head back north on the other side
Right in front of you is Fujiya Honten, a famous Kiryu udon restaurant famous for its wide, thin, and delicate udon noodles
I have eaten here before and the chewy, wide noodles are delicious
It seems they are currently operating in a new store next door
Now, I'm one block away from the main street, but I saw a notice for a third event, so I'll go there
By the way, after doing some research I found out that the three major markets in Kiryu, including the currently suspended Kiryu Rakuichi and the original Tenmangu Folk Goods and Antiques Market, are held simultaneously once a month.
There are so many things that bother me along the way that it's a bit of a challenge (lol)
Looks like we've arrived at the venue, let's go in
It seems like there are a lot of people and it's a lively event
This is the Saya Market, and it has a different feel to the previous one, mainly selling textile products, household goods, and food and drink, with a market-like atmosphere.
With a sudden announcement, the members of the executive committee began dancing and parading around
This kind of thing is kind of calming, isn't it?
I was also curious about the building across the street, so I decided to go in
Oh my, it looks like a very popular artisan bread bakery, it's packed with people!
And I feel like it's really worth it
I'm pretty full now, satisfied

Now let's go back to the main street
I returned to Tenmangu Shrine, which faces the main street, and my own stroll around the area was complete
What do you think? Even in this short area, Kiryu is packed with attractions and it is impossible to see everything in a short time. That is how much the city of Kiryu has to offer
Now we'll get in the car and head back to the Umeda area... but there's more to come, leaving us with the feeling that we're not just going back!
