NEWS: Columbia Kyoto Project launches with the renovated 100-year-old traditional house, the Columbia Kyoto Store
Columbia is a comprehensive outdoor brand founded in 1938. With a history spanning 80 years, the brand has renovated a 100-year-old traditional Japanese house in the ancient capital of Kyoto. Based on the philosophy of preserving Japanese traditions while also adapting to change, the Columbia Kyoto store opened on Friday, September 20, 2019, kicking off the Columbia KYOTO Project.
The concept of Columbia Kyoto store is "history, culture and the outdoors."
The store has been renovated with minimal modifications while preserving the structure and charm of a 100-year-old Kyoto townhouse. The plaster exterior walls, unique to Kyoto, follow the original appearance of a Kyoto townhouse while creating an outdoor feel

There is also a permanent courtyard inside the store that gives off the atmosphere of a Kyoto machiya townhouse
The entrance to the store is the entrance to a private home. Inside the store, there is a cash register counter made from recycled wood, a fitting room, and a display space made from old boat boards to display Columbia's archive items. The courtyard, which lets in light, a characteristic of Kyoto machiya townhouses, is also part of the store
