[Event Report] We all climbed a snowy mountain in spring! [Outdoor Gearzine membership offline project]

Written by Yasushi Hisatomi

Last weekend, Outdoor Gearzine's offline event has become a monthly tradition, and this month we held "Let's climb the Snow Mountains in Spring"! This time I'll be reporting on that.

In a flash, we headed back to the winter mountains and headed to Mt. Tateshina.

Recently, the season has progressed to the point where it recorded even summer days in Tokyo, and I thought the cherry blossoms were now in full bloom, but the highest temperature on the day of the event on March 30th (at the summit) was -5°C. Immediately back to winter.

There was some snow the day before, and I was supposed to enjoy the remaining snow of spring with just a shirt, but fortunately, I was beginning to feel the warmth of the spring, but I was finally beginning to feel like I could enjoy the fresh snowy mountains.

Of the six parties including the people who entered this time and me, about half of them are the first to climb snowy mountains with a clamp on. However, the rest of the members are not used to it, so we decided to climb Mt. Tateshina on Kita Yatsugatake, which is just the right level for a first-time snowy mountain.

As planned, we descended at the trailhead of Mt. Tateshina and finally started our first snowy mountain climb. The weather is beginning to recover and blue sky is beginning to appear.

The temperature was as low as expected and the road surface was ticking. The snow the day before was covered with snow on the trail to about ankles, so I decided to wear a clamp from the trailhead. Although I was confused when I first put on a crampon, the new equipment is still fun.

The mountainside up to just below the peak is Mt. Tateshina, covered with larch and white lilies. The fresh snow that fell the day before, the coniferous forest, and the blue sky combined with the blue sky gave me a fantastic view that looked like a scene from a fairy tale.

The beautiful weather and wonderful scenery made all the members get excited throughout the entire event. Even if that's not the case, everyone can't stop talking from the beginning, which is hard to believe they've met and walked for the first time lol

As you walk along the forest as you slowly experience the Tateshina Forest, which changes from winter to spring, the slope gradually becomes more steep and you can experience walking on crampons in the snowy mountains.

The climb is tough, but when you are surrounded by beautiful fog ice that looks like a painting that is unique to Mt. Kita Yatsugatake, you forget about your fatigue?

Once we finally passed through the forest, we saw the last difficult spot just below the peak, filled with large lava stones in the wide sky. As I struggle to pass through a mixed rocky and snowy area, I take my time and step by step carefully to avoid losing my balance.

Once the forest limits exceed, the winds become stronger, and the surrounding area suddenly enters the real world of winter mountains. I couldn't help but put on a balaclava and a hard shell.

The hand holding the camera is also painful due to the cold

And finally we arrived at the summit!

Although there were some clouds on this day, it was basically sunny. The top had a 360-degree view, and fortunately, I was able to see my face clearly all the way to the deep end of Mt. Yatsugatake.

The wind was strong so I thought it would be impossible to take a break at the top, but fortunately I discovered a large area where I could relax and avoid the wind.

And then I was looking forward to the Snow Mountain Cup Noodle Time!

It's quite luxurious to relax at the peak of this season.

After enjoying the peak for a while, we descended the mountain, reluctantly reluctantly. Although we were cautious about the descent, the fun chat continued.

I descended safely. Thank you to everyone for your hard work

From the choice of mountains to the weather and the wonderful members, it was fun from start to finish. . .

Thank you to everyone who participated for your hard work!

During this mountain hike, there were quite a few participants, not only from Outdoor Gearzine readers, but also from other non-readers, and what I learned from this is that there are quite a lot of people who want to try climbing a snowy mountain but are unable to take a step on their own.

In that sense, it seems that the snowy mountain refugees were able to experience the wonderfulness and difficulty of this event, as well as many other factors, so I'm glad that they did it once again.

After all, an event where people who have experienced support together can't do things on their own might be a good idea. While using this as a reference for the future, we hope to hold the event again next year as it has received a lot of popularity.

Please look forward to the next event 🙋!

Finally, this kind of event can only be held with the support of our readers and members.

If you're interested in attending another event like this one day, we would be happy if you could join Outdoor Gearzine membership.

We look forward to your continued support of Outdoor Gearzine!
