Patagonia Powder Town Jacket & Bib Review: All-around wear for everything from backcountry powder runs to cruising the slopes!

The 2025-2026 winter season is finally upon us. Last season brought abundant snowfall, so expectations are high for this year. While I mainly hit the slopes, I've also started to venture into backcountry (BC) and sidecountry. I had the the Patagonia Men's Powder Town Jacket & Bib, which is the perfect all-around piece for me. I got out and put it to the test early, before the season even began, and used it extensively.

, we will introduce a wide range of men's powder town jackets and bibs that can be used for a wide range of activities, from relaxing slope cruising at a snow resort to serious powder runs in mountain areas

While there is still little snow in the area, we have been testing the car in harsh mountainous areas at high altitudes

Impressions used

The silhouette and fit are neither too tight nor too loose, making it comfortable to wear

People have different preferences for loose or tight clothing, but fit varies greatly not only depending on the size, but also on the silhouette of the garment. The Powder Town series had an exquisite silhouette that was neither too tight nor too loose. During the field test, I the Powder Town Jacket The three-dimensional cut around the elbows and knees, which are areas of greatest movement, allowed me to move freely without any hindrance.

The three-dimensional cut pattern does not restrict movement

I tend to prefer a slightly looser fit when it comes to snowwear, so I always try on Patagonia snowwear in sizes M or L before deciding which one to get. I chose the Powder Town Jacket , and it fit perfectly - not too baggy, but not too tight and restrictive.

Height 185cm, choose size M for top and bottom

I usually choose M or L for pants, but this time, like the jacket, I chose M. The fit was just right and I didn't have any trouble moving around, but if I had to say something, it was that although the leg size was perfect, the stomach area felt a little tight. It wasn't uncomfortable, but the Powder Town Bib is made a little tight around the stomach to prevent snow from getting in, so depending on your body type, it might be better to go up one size for a more comfortable fit.

The mesh lining eliminates stickiness and provides a comfortable fit

The Powder Town series has a smooth mesh lining that reduces stickiness when you sweat, and the moisture-wicking properties keep the inside of the garment comfortable, so you won't feel uncomfortable even when doing continuous exercise like hiking uphill or actively skiing.

Mesh itself may not have heat retention properties, but I felt that having an additional layer of mesh improved the warmth of the garment. In demanding situations where high performance is required, it is preferable to keep warm with layering, and while you the Powder Tau series , this mesh fabric increases comfort in less demanding situations.

It's affordable, yet has the functionality to handle everything from cruising the slopes to backcountry skiing

The Powder Town series is the most affordable and accessible series in Patagonia's snowwear lineup. It comes in a wide variety of colors, and you can choose between bib and pants. The pants are available in short or regular styles to suit your body type, making it easy to find your favorite color scheme and find the perfect size.

However, the Powder Town series is attractive not only for its affordable price and wide range of colors, but also for its solid functionality.

The Powder Town Jacket 's powder skirt prevents snow from getting in, and the webbing loop at the center of the back the Powder Town pants. It's perfect for keeping snow out while you're skiing or snowboarding.

The snow skirt prevents snow from getting in

The hood is large enough to fit a helmet and is adjustable at the back, and the brim is padded with foam to protect against bad weather

There's also plenty of storage space. In addition to handwarmer pockets on both sides, there's a chest pocket on the left chest and a small pocket at the end of the left arm that's convenient for storing your lift IC ticket. There are also interior pockets on both sides, with the left one being a zippered pocket that's convenient for storing valuables, while the right one has a large drop-in pocket that's perfect for throwing gloves and other items. This allows you to store everything you need when cruising down the slopes. The exterior chest pocket has a hole that allows you to thread it through to the inside of the garment, a convenient feature for those who use wired earphones or headphones

The Powder Town Bib also has pockets on both sides, with the right pocket equipped with a loop for attaching a beacon or keys, and the large chest pocket was useful for storing smartphones and other devices that you don't want to get cold in low temperatures.

It keeps your phone and other devices warm with your body heat, making it convenient to store them in

If I had to say something, the Powder Town Bib are small, making it difficult to store gloves and other items. I wish the pockets were a little larger so I could easily store bulky items like gloves, balaclavas, and neck warmers.

the Powder Town Jacket and bibs are equipped with ventilation to prevent overheating, and opening them allows for efficient ventilation. The Powder Town Bibs ' ventilation is mesh, so even when left open, it's difficult for snow to get in. On hot, sunny days, opening it while skiing forces in fresh air, allowing me to cool down by the time I reach the base of the mountain. The pants' cuffs are equipped with gaiters to prevent snow from getting in and edge guards to prevent tearing when wearing crampons or snowshoes, so you can feel safe.

One of the problems people often have with bib pants is the toilet issue, but the Powder Town Bib 's right zipper can be opened up to the knee, so you can go to the toilet without having to take off your bibs. It's true that it takes more effort than pants, but this feature is appreciated by those who are put off by toilet issues. The right zipper is a double zipper, so it also allows for ventilation (although unlike the left side, the right side is not mesh).

The water-repellent properties allowed me to withstand over four hours of activity in a snowstorm without any problems

The Powder Town series is treated with DWR (durable water repellent) for high water repellency. During field testing, we walked in a snowstorm for about an hour, then set up a tent and built snow walls to withstand the strong winds, for a total of more than four hours of activity. We were exposed to the snowstorm the entire time, but the surface of the fabric of both the jacket and pants remained dry and no moisture soaked in.

Tents were set up and high walls were made of snow to withstand the strong winds

However, because modern clothing prioritizes environmental friendliness in manufacturing and processing, Patagonia clothing is manufactured without the intentional addition of PFAS, and regular maintenance is essential to maintain water repellency. It can be said that frequent maintenance is essential to maintain and sustain high water repellency

The water-repellent properties did not deteriorate during at least several days of field testing, so there is no need to worry about the water-repellent properties becoming ineffective immediately, but I felt that it would be better to be able to perform maintenance after use in order to use it for a long time

Looking at the detailed specifications, it is definitely designed for less dangerous slopes and side country

The Powder Town series offers a full range of features for backcountry use , but there are some differences between it and high-end models designed for harsh environments. For example, the zippers. While many hard shells and other clothing designed for use in extremely cold mountain regions use lightweight, freeze-resistant Vislon zippers, the Powder Town series uses waterproof zippers, which are watertight but may freeze in low-temperature environments.

The left is a waterproof zipper, and the right is a Vislon zipper

Looking at the details, I felt that the Powder Town series

Although I didn't feel any stress when cruising the slopes or in the side country, when walking for hours with a heavy load, a three-layer hard shell is definitely the better choice. The Powder Town series is an all-around good choice, but I felt it wasn't suited to the harsh conditions of serious backcountry skiing or alpine skiing.

Durable and wear-resistant, it can withstand rough use

The Powder Town series' fabric has been upgraded from 75 denier to 150 denier, making it more durable. It's durable enough for beginners who tend to fall often, as well as advanced skiers who enjoy tree runs and speeding up the slopes while avoiding tree branches.

Slope conditions aren't always ideal. On icy surfaces, the friction increases if you fall, so you can push harder with more confidence than with a lightweight model

Made with sturdy 150 denier fabric

The thickness of the fabric can be a disadvantage as it makes the garment itself heavy, but on the flip side it is very sturdy and won't break even if used roughly. My snowshoes hit the garment several times while hiking, but not a single scratch was left on the fabric

The pants are equipped with gaiters and hedge guards for added security

Summary: Enjoy the snowy mountains to the fullest with the high-quality Powder Town series, which is affordable yet highly satisfying!

We introduced Patagonia's Men's Powder Town Jacket & Bib

This is definitely a recommended piece of clothing for skiers and snowboarders who enjoy cruising the slopes at resorts, heading out into the side country depending on the weather and conditions, or enjoying day trips to the backcountry. With the Powder Town series, you'll be able to enjoy the snowy mountains to the fullest in the 2025-26 season!
