[What kind of brand is Rab?] The digest video (Part 1) has been released [11/7 Mountain Gear Maintenance Special Feature: Entries Now Being Accepted]

Written by Yasushi Hisatomi

The fifth offline talk and workshop event hosted by Outdoor Gearzine, which began this season, "What's the correct way to care for your mountain gear? (NIKWAX special feature)" is now less than two weeks away. We're still trying to fit in as many ideas as we can (please stay tuned for details on this right up until the last minute!)

Now, we would like to share with you the archived video (Part 1) that summarizes some of the events from the previous event, "Rab Special," which has been released on YouTube

In the first part, we focused on basic information about the brand LOVE and what makes it so great compared to other brands. This must-see video shows guest Yamazaki's sincerity towards outdoor culture and gear, as well as his extraordinary determination and passion. In the second part, we will introduce this season's hottest items, so please look forward to that as well

If you want to know what the actual atmosphere of an offline event is like, be sure to check it out

We are now accepting entries for the 5th offline event on Tuesday, November 7th!

Theme: "Mountain Gear Maintenance Advice Room" - Ask the people at NIKWAX anything and everything about mountain gear maintenance

How to care for and store mountain equipment, which is likely to become the most important topic for everyone who enjoys mountain climbing in the future !

This is sudden, but

  • How often do you wash the rainwear you wear in the mountains?
  • How do you wash it?
  • What detergent do you use?
  • How do you dry it?
  • Do I just need to wash it with detergent?
  • Do you know the proper care methods for different materials, such as down, wool, synthetic fibers, and leather products?
  • What about shoes, gloves, backpacks, etc?
  • How do you store washed clothes and equipment?
  • Do you know what washing methods you should avoid?

If you're not sure about any of the answers, come join us at this event and find out!

For the fifth episode, we will be inviting Evernew, a company that has been selling NIKWAX in Japan for many years, to teach us all about how to use outdoor gear care products, how to actually care for them, and how to store them after care, as well as other practical tips and tricks for maintaining your gear!

What is NIKWAX?

NIKWAX, which has been producing maintenance products for outdoor wear since the 1970s, is a pioneer in the field of maintenance that has established new standards for aftercare for mountain gear, from water-repellent restoration products for leather shoes to cleaning and water-repellent agents for clothing, as well as various gear such as sleeping bags, tents, and gloves. Furthermore, when ozone depletion and aerosol sprays became a problem in the 1980s, NIKWAX was quick to launch the water-soluble NIKWAX lineup, making it a great brand that has always had a strong environmental consciousness

A wealth of "care tips" from the people at NIKWAX

Mr. Ota has been involved with NIKWAX at EVERNEW for many years, and is literally one of the people in Japan who knows NIKWAX best. At the event, we hope to have Mr. Ota teach us as much as time allows about how to care for mountain wear and equipment, from the basics to the basics and practical know-how

We invite questions in advance

We would like to make the event as practical as possible, rather than just what is written on manufacturer websites or in textbooks, so we will start with a brief introduction to NIKWAX and then proceed in a ``problem consultation'' format, where we will answer specific questions one by one

For this reason, we are looking for questions in advance so that we can answer as many as possible smoothly. Whether you are planning to participate or not, if you have any questions you would like to ask about mountain gear maintenance, please feel free to ask them using the question form below!

Ask NIKWAX a question (Go to the Google Form question submission page)

If you bring the item to the site, we can diagnose your problem on the spot

Those attending on-site will be able to easily consult with professionals in the field about questions they might normally find difficult to ask, such as, "Should I replace it if it's this old, or can it still be maintained?"

We will also be demonstrating water repellent maintenance

In addition to consultations, we are also planning to demonstrate water-repellent maintenance, an essential care for the coming winter. Details will be announced as soon as they are decided. If there is anything else you would like to see done at the event, please let us know using the question form above

This time we will be streaming live online

We are also planning to stream the event live via Zoom webinar, so that even those who cannot attend can watch it without difficulty. Please feel free to ask questions during the online viewing, as time permits, so we hope you will join us from all over the world!

"Our Favorite Hikes" welcomes people from a variety of professions and positions involved in the outdoors in Japan, and aims to be an exciting place where you can meet fellow mountain and gear lovers and have deep interactions. No prior knowledge, let alone any skill or experience, is necessary to participate. Anyone of any age or gender is welcome, and solo hikers are also welcome. Anyone who has even a slight love for the mountains or the outdoors can have fun, so please feel free to join us! We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible!
