Review: Arc'teryx Sublio Pants This summer's best trekking pants are perfect for their looks and functionality.
I myself have not been particularly particular about trekking pants so far, and I hope they have some breathability and repel some rain. That's how it is, and rather focuses on ease of movement. Meanwhile, I was a little shunned because it was thick and the look was a bit unbearable. However, recent trekking pants have also evolved considerably, and have been diversified to suit a variety of purposes and uses, and a wide variety of pants have been released from various manufacturers.
the sublio pants released by Arc'teryx as a 2019 model . These pants have high basic performance as trekking pants, and are a very interesting model that incorporates the latest trends. I've carefully reviewed these sublio pants.

It is very thin, so it dries quickly and breathable, making it useful not only in spring and autumn, but also in low mountains in the hot summer. It's easy to layer and feels smooth on the skin, so it won't get rough even when wearing shell pants on top, so it can be used for trekking in low mountains in winter. Detailed review
The fabric is very thin, about the same as thick tights. The fabric is made from Arc'teryx's unique lightweight, stretchable and durable Fortius™ DW 1.0.
The fitting is tight. Arc'teryx uses five fitting patterns depending on the purpose, but these sublio pants use the next "Trim Fit" after the "Next to Skin" fit that adheres to the skin like a base layer, giving it a tight, volume-reducing fitting. However, despite its tight fitting, the knee and crotch have a gusset that is stretchy and three-dimensional, making it extremely easy to move around in.

The legs have a gusset so you can easily spread your legs and there is no stress in movement.
Unlike the surface, the lining has fine unevenness, which makes it very smoothly when you put your feet in. Even if you sweat, it won't get sticky and is highly breathable, so it's still comfortable.

The lining is uneven and maintains a smooth texture even when you sweat.
While it is highly breathable, it is not very windproof. The fabric itself has some wind resistance, but if the wind is strong, the temperature of the wind can quickly be transmitted through the thin fabric, so it will not be possible to prevent cold winds.
It is very water repellent and can be water repellent in some rain. Since it dries quickly, if you don't have to worry about it getting cold even if it gets wet, rain pants will not be necessary unless it rains heavily.

When you turn it over, the knee area is reinforced with seam tape to prevent water from oozing out.

The knees are made with notches and three-dimensional to increase mobility. The back is reinforced with seam tape.
Minimum functionality
There are two pockets, one on the slightly lower side, not just below the waist. There is no back pocket on the buttocks. The pockets appear to be located slightly below to prevent interference with the waist belt and harness of the large backpack.

The pockets are placed slightly lower, and are taken into consideration so that they do not interfere with the waistband of the backpack or the harness.
Both pockets are zippered and the inside is made of mesh fabric. The pockets are sewn onto the pants themselves, so even if you put something a little heavy, it won't sway very much. It is mesh-based, so if fully opened, it can also be used as a ventilation system.

The pockets are mesh on the front. It is sewn onto the pants to reduce shaking.
The front opens and closes with two snap buttons. The front zipper is about 2/3 of the regular pants, which may be a bit inconvenient. The waist is adjusted with a drawcord, so it is not bulky and does not interfere with harnesses or other parts.

The front opens and closes with a snap button. The waist adjustment is a drawcord design.
The actual weight is 209g (30 inches), and the trekking pants are quite lightweight. It's not a packable design, but it becomes quite small when folded, so you can easily carry it by putting it in a staff bag or something.

If you fold it and roll it up, it can be stored quite compactly.
Impressions from actually using it
My thighs are thick, but I was very thin, so I thought it would be tight no matter how you look at it, but when I actually put them on, my legs suddenly thrust in, and the look didn't make me feel like the slimmer look. It's probably thanks to the extremely stretchy and the three-dimensional cutting. In addition, the moderate unevenness of the lining reduces friction with the skin surface and is smooth, making it very comfortable. This feeling of wear is a bit moving.
This high comfort is also thanks to the construction around the waist. It doesn't have the waist hand pockets that are found in regular pants, and is only slightly below the side of the thighs. In addition, the waist adjustment is due to drawstring and there is no belt loop, so the waist area is very clean and light, and there is no stress.
It is true that the pockets located on both sides of the thighs can be put in and taken out without being interfered with the waist straps of large backpacks or climbing harnesses, but the entrance is not wide, and the inside is large enough to not be spread out just enough, and there is no gusset so there is almost no room for anything that is too large. When using pants alone, there may be problems with storage capacity. In the first place, that's not what you're thinking about.
Although it is a three-spring-Autumn season model, it can be used as a base layer due to its thin, tight fit and stretchy fit. The reason the waist area is probably due to the consideration of preventing it from getting bulky when wearing hard shell pants or something over it. Considering this kind of usage, the lack of pockets and the simplicity of the waist can be said to be a reasonable specification.
Summary: Recommended for people like this
These trekking pants are made of very thin fabric, lightweight, stretchy, and mobility, and you can experience high performance that is hard to imagine from the simplicity of the appearance. It also shows how versatile it is, as it can be used for climbing, from day-trips to multiple nights of traversals, and thanks to its high mobility. Due to its simplicity, it can be used like a base layer, and although it is said to be trekking pants that can be used for three seasons from spring to autumn, depending on how you use it, it is a versatile pants that can be used in a wide range of years, so if you have one, it is sure to be useful. For now, I want a versatile trekking pants! This would be the best match for those who are: It seems that even advanced users will be very useful as emergency pants to keep in their bags.
