written by Outdoor Gearzine Editorial Department

It's become a completely chilly season. How are you all doing? I'm Rinko, a lazy triathlete who hasn't gotten any better for another month.

I have reviewed the Asics Lady Gel-KAYANO 23, the shoe I fought together in the triathlon race I participated in at the end of this summer And this is the last shoe I'll review, and I really want these! We will conclude with the HOKA ONE ONE, which we asked the editor-in-chief to prepare.

HOKA, which has a distinctive shape, is not yet very familiar to Japanese runners, but it is a popular shoe among triathletes, as it is only known only to those who know it.

just announced at Serious Triathlon Magazine-LAVA, a magazine for overseas triathletes, 18.1% (first place) of the players who participated in the 2017 Ironman World Championships held in Hawaii were wearing HOKA By the way, ASICS has maintained its top position for many years since 2009 to last year. HOKA has been steadily gaining its share since its appearance in 2011, and after pushing Asics to a close 1% last year, it finally reached the top of the year. These shoes are popular among Iron Man. In the triathlon world, which is the pinnacle of endurance sports, if they are popular shoes, they will surely protect my feet for a long time.

I hope so...first, let's start with the characteristics of a good sense.

This is amazing

As soon as you step in, you'll be amazed by the fluffy cushion.

The soles are about 1.5 to 2 times more than regular running shoes, and look eccentric. It's like safety shoes. My first impression was that it looked somehow heavy, but as soon as I stepped into my shoes I was surprised by the soft, fluffy cushioning, its lightness and appearance. I was so happy I couldn't help but run around the shop. You can run with this on! With joy, I took it home and continued to run test runs. This lightness is a very important point for endurance sports. To explain next, the more you wear them, the more you look at them in both good and bad ways, and they were a little interesting.

It's just light and easy! The upper material is made of mesh fabric with no seams, making it highly breathable.

It's extremely light of the three types of shoes selected in this comparison review! The overall rating is only about 3cm thick compared to the Brooks, which I chose second place , but the weight is as low as 37g, creating an amazing lightness.

The midsole is also made of compression molded EVA, creating an exquisite cushioning feel. The shoes are slightly wider at the front, so as a Japanese woman, I have a lot of room around my fingertips, and even when I move my toes, there is still a lot of room. That's not true if that excess will lead to instability when you run. The inner sole holds your feet properly in front of you, so there is no problem with your nails rubbing and falling off. The cushioning function and light weight make it easy to use in the up and down direction! There is plenty of width in the left and right direction, making it easy! The seamless mesh upper material also doesn't feel suffocated overall, making it easy to use in all directions! easy! easy! It feels like the three-beat.

Another feature of HOKA's distinctive cradle-like sole shape creates comfort for running.

Thanks to this shape, once you start running, the natural rolling effect will allow you to carry your feet forward smoothly from landing to kicking. There were concerns about sprains because it had thick soles, but I was surprised that even if you lean forward a little on the way down, it was especially strange that you could plunge in a position close to normal running position.

This is not good

The grip strength is not enough to make it durable, and the strength of the quirks you choose who wears it.

Looking behind it, only the black part on the front and heel, which have a lot of contact surfaces, is equipped with a slightly stiff rubber sole.

The white part is made of soft rubber material. When I first started wearing them, I had tested them on various roads, and they didn't slip even on wet mountain trails, so I thought there was no problem with grip, but after wearing them for about three months, I discovered that they slip very well on certain concrete shapes on light rainy days. It's difficult to explain, but the type of concrete with fine pebble-like finish was dangerous, and we also needed to be careful about manholes on rainy days.

In addition, regular shoes are made of Plastic material in the heel cup, which secures the movement of the heel and prevents shaking, but this shoe is softer than other shoes.

The cup was not so slurping, but there was no firm sense of securing, causing movement in the rear, and the soles of the feet gave off a slight sense of friction. Would you understand if you explain that it's similar to how the soles of your feet stand out and rubbing when wearing high-grade clogs? By tying the laces of the shoe neatly to make them tight, you can prevent this floating and rubbing feeling, but the quality of the laces is low and the laces are so long that it's difficult to handle. I've stepped on the string once, so I kept it in and put it on as shown in the photo, but I recommend replacing it with shoelaces of the right length.

Summary: I want to use it in these situations!

These extremely distinctive shoes seem to be wrapped in fluffy marshmallows and seem to be flying in the sky.

This shoe, which can be said to be quirky due to its strong characteristics ranked third out of three in "Comparison Impressions: Which running shoes are strong for long distances and long hours?!"

Until I got used to this feature, I felt like my weight would sink into the cushion, which initially felt uncomfortable. However, once you get the quirks of your shoes, I think that if you can use the rebound effect of the cushion with a fun feel, it will gradually increase speed. In addition, this lightness, softness, and cushioning properties can be particularly recommended for runners who are careful not to run on hard roads, as they cause joint damage.
