Review: If you want to level up while feeling the joy of driving in nature, it's a good idea to wear SALOMON SENSE RIDE.
Not just trail running, but in recent years, it seems that thick-soled running shoes, such as high cushioning and high rebound, are attracting attention. I've never gotten into the trend, but I've always suffered from knee pain, but recently I've been taking HOKA's CHALLENGER ATR 2 to the trails. I see, it's true that this reduces knee pain, and I don't dislike these types of shoes, but the unique ride comfort of being wearing shoes still feels a little uncomfortable.
SENSE RIDE was released in SALOMON this fall , has not only been used in the S-Lab line, the brand's high-end series, but also includes a new, original technology called "Vibe Technology," which reduces the accumulation of damage and fatigue caused by long driving, and is said to be an ambitious work that has been discovered with a new approach that other brands have never seen before.
I'm not particularly serious or stoic, and I usually catch runs as an extension of hiking, and as a casual runner who just wants to get better as long as I run without getting injured, my time will improve if possible, so there's no way I won't try it. I've decided to give a review right away.

Could it have been more fun, less injured and more lighter? I tried wearing it in a serious lace
As for this review, I was supposed to be participating in the Tama River Gendai Trail Run on September 10th, so I will review them based on my impressions of wearing SENSE RIDE Furthermore, SALOMON product staff also featured in the various new technologies installed in these shoes, and gave us an easy-to-understand explanation of the mechanism.
General features
SENSE RIDE a highly all-round model that is located between the long-selling SENSE PRO and the 2017 spring model SENSE PRO MAX The midsole uses Vibe technology, which absorbs and reduces vibrations that can cause fatigue and injuries, as well as impacts caused by landing. The outsole has a rocker shape similar to the bottom of the boat, allowing for natural rolling, and uses the ergonomic slit "DECOUPLING OUTSOLE", which allows for smooth weight transfer from the heel to the toe. The outer sole uses "Contagrip® Premium Wet Traction" to provide high grip even on wet rocks.

Detailed review
The upper fits as if it were integrated with the foot
We have often mentioned the exquisite fit of SALOMON shoes on this site for some time, but this outstanding sense of unity through its proprietary technology, "SENSIFIT™" is still alive and well. The ultimate comfort of wearing this shoelaces is as good as ever, as when you tighten the shoelaces, wrapping the entire foot from the bottom.
The upper fabric is a combination of soft, breathable mesh material and TPU. The seamlessly crimped surface not only contributes to lightness and flexibility, but also to its high stylish design.
This isn't the only secret to an outstanding fit. ENDOFIT™ has a tongue structure that wraps around the instep of your foot, allowing you to hold your feet inside the shoe just like socks, without feeling uncomfortable with the seams.
I asked the person in charge about the secret!
ENDOFIT™ is a system that was devised by Killian Giorne, a world-class mountain runner and contract athlete for SALOMON, after taking thorough effort to win races. It is designed not only to improve the feel of the skin and improve the fit, but also to the point that it gently maintains the lateral arch while relaxing, supporting the shock absorbing function that the foot has.

ENDFIT™ covers your feet perfectly as if you were wearing socks. It's actually not necessary to wear socks.
2. The stress-free weight transfer from heels to toes will naturally send your feet forward.
One of the best things about many trail runs is being able to sharpen the nerves in the soles of your feet and feel the various changes in topography, such as slopes, unevenness, and ground quality. However, the unfortunate thing about thick-soled shoes is that they are relatively difficult to feel as a compensation for the cushioning. In this respect, this SENSE RIDE (unlike the thick-soled shoes I've been wearing all the time) is not as good as a racing model, but it not only captures the pressure from the ground properly, but also gives the feeling of the foot moving forward and forward naturally, as if the shoe had integrated into the foot. There are a number of reasons for this, including its lightness.
weight
Although 280g (actual measurements of one foot of 26.5cm) is not extremely light, it is quite lightweight. Among the SALOMON lineup, it is heavier than S/LAB SENSE 6 almost the same as the SENSE PRO 2 slightly lighter than the SENSE PRO MAX WINGS PRO 2 (335g), which is the lighter side of the brand's off-road shoe line.
Rocker Geometry
Looking at the sole from the side, you can see that it curves gently from the heel to the toes. This bottom-shaped rocker shape allows for natural and smooth walking, making it easier to ride long distances.
Sole forefoot flexibility
What surprised me a little was how soft the front foot was. It is designed to be quite flexible compared to other companies. Perhaps thanks to this, first of all, it's easier to drive on roads. Furthermore, it is easy to handle delicate touches that put your feet on uneven terrain, allowing you to place your feet without fear when you are making fine steps on the descent. However, the front sole thickness is 16mm, which is by no means thick, so in exchange for the delicate touch, the protection is slightly thinner. I originally landed in heels so I didn't really bother me, but depending on how I run, there may be some people who are concerned about it.
GEOMETRIC DECOUPLING (non-interference design)
Hidden behind this seemingly casual slits and lug arrangement found on the outsole of SENSE RIDE We asked the person in charge about how it works.
I asked the person in charge about the secret!
One of the things that this shoe has in mind is to "maximise the function of your feet." Many running shoes are designed with a single axis that matches the movements of the ankle joint up and down. However, the feet consist of 26 bones and 33 joints, and from landing to kicking off, each joint does not move on the same axis.
"GEOMETRIC DECOUPLING" is a mechanism that captures the actual movements of the feet in a three-dimensional manner, as they are in their original movements, and incorporates them into the sole design so that they do not impair (or limit) the movements and functions of each.
This mechanism is thoroughly implemented as a consistent concept for this shoe, not only from the outsole but also from the reinforcement part of the midsole, and these together allow for stress-free, smooth and efficient weight transfer from the heel to the toes.

Decoupled Profeel Film is a protection and stability improvement part that is divided by newly designed slits that match the movement of the foot, ergonomically designed.
3. A midsole with excellent stability that allows you to run happily without worrying about damage
This shoe is particularly superior to other models, and what I like most is its good balance on a high level, allowing for stress-free movement and delicate touches while also providing minimal damage to the body. This comfort is supported by the newly developed sole structure "Vibe Technology."
Here's the rough mechanism. The loads that runners receive while driving are not just the impact they land and the rebound when they step on. In reality, the impact is caused by a small vibration (wave) and is accumulated in muscles and joints as invisible damage. This was the first time we focused on this, and thought that by absorbing these slight vibrations, it would reduce fatigue, improve comfort, and prevent injuries, this "Vibe Technology" was born.
I asked the person in charge about the secret!
Another of the main concepts of this shoe is to "maintain foot function" by reducing fatigue. I think that in previous shoes, we have designed the midsole with the aim of achieving both high cushioning, high rebound, and opposing elements as a way to reduce fatigue. On the other hand, we have come to the point that the three cushioning performance required for the midsole of shoes are shock absorption, rebound and vibration absorption. That's where VIBE Technology was born.
The specific structure is an innovative bottom system that combines the midsole "Energycell+" that combines the inherently opposing high cushioning and high rebound properties, and the midsole "OPAL" that no one noticed, with a function that works, and has a function that no one noticed, and is adjusted to last even on long runs. OPAL absorbs harmful vibrations from the road surface that occur during running, while the high rebound and durable Energycell+ provides a comfortable long ride.

The top is the "OPAL" with a slight vibration absorption function, and the bottom is the "Energycell+" EVA with high cushioning and high rebound.
4. High grip with both traction and brakes
Like the midsole, the outer sole is based on a decoupled outsole, divided by newly designed slits that match the movement of the foot, based on ergonomics. The fine lugs calculated based on this are not so deep and sharp, but they have an effective arrangement that allows you to hold firmly in front, back, back, left, and right.
Furthermore, the sole material is Contagrip® Premium Wet Traction, designed to be used in a variety of situations. It is resistant to wet rocks, and in this race I was able to rest my feet safely even on harsh roads, such as mossy rocks and loose muddy slopes. However, although I haven't tried it, the rug is not deep, so it doesn't seem to be suitable for hard muddy roads.
Practical driving report for "Tama River Source Trail Run"
This race has been a long time since I've been running for a while since I started wearing shoes. The exquisite fit and flexibility that fits your feet so well that you're wondering, "These are shoes for the week?" I started slowly thinking about this.
The shoe's abilities were particularly demonstrated in the second half, when it was faster than usual and quickly fell. Even when you run down with the heels, the moderate cushioning relieves the impact, while the forefoot has a flexible, grippy sole that feels the ground changes and supports proper foot movement. In addition, the bottom shape makes the feet spin forward. This is the first time I've been able to run down this fast.
Furthermore, these shoes do not affect the difference in terrain, from climbing gravel, earth, and wood in the first half to descending dirt, mud, and rocky areas in the second half to climbing up and down the paved roads that appear occasionally. I realized that each individual technique is being utilized in each situation.

He managed to endure the second half of the road, which usually had a hard time putting on a step with the stiff, stiff joints.
Normally, if you get this strong and go down, the damage will be painful at the end and appear in joints such as the knees and base of the legs, but this time, strangely, there is no fatal pain. I couldn't prevent my legs from getting cramped due to lack of practice or the pain caused by toes being criticized, but I usually had the brakes somewhere, so I was able to reach the finish line without stopping until the very end. As a result, my time had been shorter than I had imagined, and although I usually liked hiking leisurely, I thought the race wasn't too bad either.
Summary: Recommended for people like this
I'm not that into racing yet, so I can't particularly limit the course or type of race. On top of that, I want to enjoy a pure trail run. But I don't want to get hurt. I don't want to leave any fatigue. I thought it would be perfect for such a selfish entry runner (= myself).
To be honest, I've never seen a shoe that has a balanced balance of the comfortable upper fit with SENSIFIT™ and ENDOFIT™, comfortable and safe cushioning with Vibe technology, GEOMETRIC DECOUPLING provides stress-free riding experience regardless of terrain, Contagrip® Premium Wet Traction provides solid grip over a wide range of terrain, and all-round characteristics. This pair of shoes is the new standard from SALOMON, popular among runners of all ages, from beginners to professionals.
This exquisite balance and the easy-to-use price of around 10,000 yen, make this a pair of shoes that I can confidently recommend, especially for runners who are about to start trail running . Also, due to his lack of habit and high fatigue reduction, he has recently become a widespread player to top players who have been injured.
However, due to the thickness and flexibility of the front, it can be said that it is not suitable for speed-oriented or braking forcefully on the forefoot. In the first place, it is said that people who have achieved such a great runner are runners who have little time to race, and for those people, the best of these shoes may not be fully appreciated. The features of this shoe are rather advantageous for people who spend a lot of time exercising, and in that sense it is suitable for more entry runners and runners who want to enjoy running purely, rather than just a few percent of the top runners.
terms of the overall positioning of SALOMON's SENSE series, if you want to step on the ground with a smaller drop and a lighter feel to it, then you would prefer the SENSE PRO 2 , and if you want a luxurious cushion rather than a terrain adaptation ability, you would prefer the SENSE PRO MAX SENSE RIDE is just somewhere in between, so it should be the perfect option if you don't have a clear preference or purpose, or if you don't run that extreme or you don't run on extreme courses, so you want a pair of shoes that are easy to use all-around.
