It has a five-layer insulation structure, with a vacuum layer blocking the effects of outside temperature and a structure that reflects radiant heat to maintain its heat (or cold) retention power
Its high thermal insulation properties allow it to maintain a temperature of 81°C even after six hours of filling with hot water at 95°C (with a tolerance of ±1°C) in an environment with an ambient temperature of approximately 20°C (this is the manufacturer's published value for a 500ml bottle)

In order to compare the three models under as similar conditions as possible, we standardized the bottle capacity to 500ml and conducted the tests
The tests were conducted at room temperature (approximately 20°C), which is similar to the environment used by the manufacturer for their official heat retention tests, and in a freezer (below -15°C)
For each test, the temperature is measured after 1 hour, 3 hours, and 6 hours
We poured the liquid into the bottle up to the inner stopper when it was boiling, then placed the bottle upright with the inner stopper and cup attached, and measured the temperature using a cooking thermometer depending on the amount of time that had passed.However, since we were unable to measure all the bottles at the same time, there was a slight time difference, so we would like you to use these values as a reference rather than as exact figures

First, we conducted the test in an environment with an ambient temperature of approximately 20°C. After six hours, the Montbell bottle maintained the highest temperature at 81°C, followed by the TenPeak Clite at 80.5°C and the Thermos at 80°C. The temperature difference between all bottles after six hours was within 1°C, demonstrating that each bottle has excellent heat retention

The Ten Peak Clite's result was 0.5°C lower than the official measurement. Please understand that this is a simple test using household equipment, but the Montbell and Thermos' results were higher than the official measurements, so the temperature change could be said to be understated
By the way, about 80 degrees Celsius is the temperature at which you can eat instant ramen and other foods without any problems
Low temperature environment (temperature below -15°C): The performance here is also almost equal (in fact, Ten Peak is superior!)
Test in the freezer

The next test was done in a freezer. The freezer temperature is below -15°C, which is an environment similar to that of Yatsugatake in the harsh winter. Ice packs were placed between the bottles to prevent them from interfering with each other, and the test was then carried out
After six hours, the Ten Peak Clite maintained the highest temperature at 78.2°C, followed by Montbell (77.4°C) and Thermos (76.0°C)
Since the temperature was below -15°C, the results after 6 hours were slightly lower than in the outdoor test, but they still maintained a sufficiently hot temperature. What we can see from these results is that although the low temperature environment has some impact, all of the bottles boast high insulation performance and there is no significant difference in their performance

In tests conducted in temperatures below -15°C, I was surprised to see that the Ten Peak Clear maintained a higher temperature than the Montbell and Thermos. The Ten Peak Clear has heat retention capabilities that rival those of the Montbell and Thermos thermal bottles
In an environment with a temperature of around 20°C, the temperature after 12 hours was 71.1°C, so even hot water made before going to bed will last until the next morning. For example, in a crowded tent site, you may be hesitant to use a stove early in the morning, but with the Ten Peak Cleat, you can have a hot cup of coffee as soon as you wake up
Furthermore, the capacity is 500ml, so even if you drink coffee (150ml) and soup (150ml), you will still have 300ml left, and you can even eat instant rice with the remaining 200ml.By keeping it full, you will have just enough hot water for one meal
If you feel that 70°C water is too lukewarm, you can reheat it on the stove and bring it to a boil quickly.It also takes less time to boil than heating it from room temperature, so it saves time and fuel, killing two birds with one stone

Looking at the results of the thermal insulation performance test, just because it is cheap does not mean that it is inferior in performance, and when considering the price relative to the thermal insulation performance, it is the thermal bottle with the best cost performance of all the ones we compared
Larger and heavier than rival insulated bottles
The most compact size is Montbell's Alpine Thermo Bottle
The Ten Peak Clear offers comparable heat retention, but the size and weight are a concern. As you can see from the photo above, the Ten Peak Clear is the largest, with a thicker bottle diameter
It weighs 293.5g, which is 35.5g lighter than the lightest Montbell (258.0g). For those who are serious about shaving off even 1g, the weight difference of 35.5g is something they cannot compromise on, even if it means paying a little more
By the way, all three bottles we compared are equipped with removable silicone rubber, and removing the silicone rubber can make them slightly lighter
Minimum weight without silicone rubber
Without the silicone rubber, the Montbell bottle weighs 235g, the mountain bottle 258.5g, and the TenPeaklite 280.5g. One thing that bothered me was that the lid was difficult to open when wearing gloves that didn't have a non-slip surface. This wasn't so much that it was difficult to use, but rather that it made me realize how much Thermos cares about ease of use
Thermos' mountain bottle has an outdoor-like appearance, but the cup has a textured surface that makes it easy to turn even when wearing gloves, and there's a silicone band attached to the part of the bottle that fits snugly in your hand when opening the stopper, making it extremely easy to use in the mountains
The silicone band can be removed if not needed, so Thermos' mountain bottle wins in terms of practicality

The results of insulation tests also proved that Ten Peak Clear has excellent heat retention, and the spout has a simple cap design that allows pouring from two points, top and bottom, making it easy to use
Having a lot of gaskets and parts makes cleaning more difficult, and having a cap with as simple a structure and number of parts as possible directly affects ease of cleaning. Thermos's double-layered cap makes it difficult to clean, but Ten Peak Clite and Montbell have a minimal number of parts, making them recommended for ease of cleaning
