The compact-sized coffee extractor "AeroPress Go" is a must-have for outdoor and coffee lovers, and is amazing.
Have you heard of the Aeropress, a coffee brewer that uses air pressure?
Developed in 2005 by AEROBIE, a company originally a frisbee manufacturer, this unique coffee brewing device is essentially a large, cylindrical container into which coffee beans and hot water are poured, and then the coffee is extracted by using air pressure, like a syringe. Since its release, it has gained fans around the world due to its ability to quickly and easily make high-quality coffee outdoors, and its depth of application, combined with the wide variety of flavors that can be enjoyed depending on how you use it, has led to a steady expansion that has led to the holding of a world competition to test coffee brewing techniques
However, I was also attracted by the keyword "coffee x outdoor" and tried it a few years ago, but to be honest, I wasn't really into it. While I appreciated the taste and convenience, the equipment itself was a bit too big for outdoor activities, which are often done alone or with a small group, and I found it too bulky
Meanwhile, the AeroPress has undergone a long-awaited evolution this season and once again appeared before my eyes. It's called the "AeroPress Go." This time, I'm completely hooked. Having actually used it, I've found that it's not only attractive in itself, but with a little customization, I've finally completed my own luxurious coffee gear set for solo hikes, so I'd like to introduce it to you right away

What is the latest model "AeroPress Go" that has evolved into a portable shape?
It's now more compact, so it's small enough to carry around when hiking
The original AeroPress was about the size of a large water bottle (14 x 11 x 10 cm), so it was just too big, and it had too many unnecessary parts to be portable, so it definitely wasn't something you'd want to take on a hike
So, what do you think? This new model was clearly designed with portability in mind, and although the amount that can be made at one time has been reduced, it is just the right size (12 x 12 x 9 cm) for one or two people to use and carry. In addition, the number of accessories has been reduced as much as possible, and a new "mug" has been added to the set, resulting in a convenient and smart design (see photo below)

All parts included as standard. From the back left: lid, stirring rod, measuring spoon, mug, plunger, chamber. From the front left: filter case, filter cap
Once you've stored all the tools shown in the photo above and put on the pop red rubber lid, it's small enough to not stand out too much in your backpack (photo below)

With AeroPress, you can enjoy the original flavor of coffee beans
Of course, if you're just drinking regular coffee in the mountains, a dripper and filter will do. These days, there are tons of stylish, ultra-lightweight drippers on sale, and no matter how compact they've become, it's still true that lightweight drippers are still lighter. However, the main reason I still want to take my AeroPress to the mountains and drink coffee is because of its indescribable rich flavor
Unlike drippers and other methods that rely on gravity to extract coffee, AeroPress uses air pressure to extract coffee in a short amount of time. This allows the coffee beans' original flavor to be more strongly brought out, and this is said to be the biggest attraction that attracts so many fans
What I actually like about this coffee is that the coffee extraction time is short, resulting in a clean taste with less off-flavors and acidity (of course, the impression will vary greatly depending on the quality and type of coffee beans). And yet, because the amount produced is small and pressure is applied like espresso, it also has a rich flavor (a pleasant bitterness). I honestly don't know if this is something that "cannot be achieved with other extraction methods," as the manufacturer claims, but at least I feel like I'm getting closer to the "delicious coffee" I'm looking for
You can easily and quickly make delicious coffee outdoors
In addition to its compact size and delicious taste, another thing not to be overlooked is its ease of use
If you've ever searched for "how to make delicious drip coffee," you'll know that there are so many tricks and details to follow, like the amount of ingredients, how to steam the coffee, how to add hot water, etc. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but as someone who openly admits to being lazy, it's no wonder it's so annoying
But the AeroPress GO is different. It's a device designed by an outdoor enthusiast, so even if the procedure is a little rough, anyone can easily brew a decent cup of delicious coffee. Of course, the world of brewing is so complex that world championships are held, so brewing coffee haphazardly doesn't guarantee the best taste. I want to emphasize that
How to brew coffee outdoors using an AeroPress GO
Now, to brew coffee using the AeroPress GO, first set it up: Place a paper filter into the filter cap at the tip of the brewer

Place the filter cap on the outer tube (called the chamber)

Next, pour the ground coffee beans into the chamber (see photo below)
The grind of the beans can basically be the same as for standard drip coffee, "medium-fine to medium grind." The amount can also be the same as when making regular coffee. Of course, you can freely create a variety of flavors by changing the amount, grind, amount of water, and brewing method, but the fact that you can make delicious coffee even without being too particular about it makes it perfect for busy outdoor activities and for lazy people like me. First, enjoy it slowly, and as your interest and free time gradually grow, you can finally try out various brewing methods

Shake the chamber gently to even out the coffee grounds, then place it on top of the mug (see photo below)

Once everything is ready, pour in 80°C hot water (see photo below)

There's no need to wait any particular time; just stir the hot water and coffee powder smoothly for about 10 seconds (see photo below)

Then, the long-awaited inner tube (plunger) is inserted from directly above and pressure is applied gently (see photo below)

While chanting the incantation, each person extracts the coffee little by little, and when the plunger reaches the bottom where it can no longer be pressed, the extraction is complete

As you can see, high-quality coffee is ready in no time after adding hot water (see photo below). The photo below shows the coffee after brewing it twice in a row because I wanted to drink a lot. The maximum amount of coffee that can be brewed in one brew is about 1.5 cups (237ml)

A moment of bliss

Easy to clean up!
The best thing about this device is how easy it is to clean up afterwards
After use, remove the filter cap and push the plunger to dispose of the used coffee grounds and filter in the trash. Aside from wiping off any coffee grounds that may have gotten stuck on the rubber tip of the plunger, there's very little else to wash

I also customized my own coffee set to make it easier to carry to the mountains
This compactness, smartness, and deliciousness were certainly the real deal. However, I understand that people who are interested in lightweighting through fast and light methods might be tempted to say, "Even so, it's still bulky and the luggage is too heavy." I certainly felt the same way, it was amazing, but it still felt like it was "just one step away." But I would like to incorporate this smart and luxurious coffee time into my regular mountain climbing trips as much as possible..
So I thought about how to customize it from here
First, sharpen the tools that can be used to sharpen
Not only do we eliminate the powder measuring spoon and stirring stick, but we also eliminate the paper filter (and filter case). By replacing the filter with a third-party stainless steel filter, we can enjoy richer coffee with more oil retained while reducing waste

For the stainless steel filter, I intuitively chose the "cera COFFEE Aeropress SS Filter 13μm" that I ordered from Amazon. This isn't necessarily the best, and there may be some room for improvement
Next, there's the mug. This mug is a new addition to the set, but because it's made of resin, it can't be heated over a fire. This means you'll need a separate cooker to boil water, which inevitably adds to the luggage
This mug has been made into a new set, but if it could be replaced with a metal mug that can also be used to boil water, it would become a lean kitchen set that can be used as both a cooker to boil water and a container to hold the brewed coffee
However, the mug that fits in this container must have an inner diameter that is just right to allow the chamber to stand on top of the mug and extract coffee, and it must also be large enough that the chamber and other components can fit inside and be secured (packed) with a lid

For example, you cannot use an AeroPress with a mug (cooker) that has an inner diameter that is too large (see photo below)

The photo shows TOAKS' 750ml titanium cooker
Also, even if the inner diameter is just right, if the mug is too shallow (although it is not impossible), it will not fit in well and will not look very good (see photo below)

The photo shows Snow Peak's Titanium Single Mag 450
I wondered if there was a mug with an inner diameter that was just the right size, and that wasn't too shallow... I searched every drawer, and found it among the unpopular tools that had rarely been used in the field until now. It was none other than the Montbell Titanium Cup 600 (pictured below). The inner diameter was just narrow enough for the chamber to catch, and the bottom was deep enough for the parts to fit snugly inside. Its unusually long, slender silhouette had kept it in the shadows for a long time, but this was the moment it suddenly rose to prominence.

Put all the parts together, and fill the remaining space in the tube with about two cups of coffee beans and a small TOAKS Titanium Folding Spork , which doubles as cutlery (stirring stick) (see photo below).

Finally, place them the Titanium Cup 600 and put the lid on top, and it fits perfectly. This means you don't have to carry an extra mug just to drink from the AeroPress, and you have a streamlined kitchen that can be used for both meals and other purposes.

Summary: Even when hiking, the AeroPress allows you to enjoy a premium outdoor coffee experience like never before
This season on this site, we've introduced several recommended tools ( coffee grinders and bottles ) for making delicious coffee outdoors. Personally, I've found that the AeroPress GO is an essential outdoor coffee brewing device with a unique and wonderful appeal that makes it indispensable for completing the "ideal mountain coffee set." Furthermore, as long as you have the core parts, you can customize it to your liking to create the ideal set, so you can enjoy it for a wide range of uses and inclinations, from camping and travel to serious solo hiking and fastpacking.
It's true that mountain coffee isn't necessary for everyone. However, it's also true that for those who have experienced the richness of a "trip with delicious coffee," it becomes more than just a necessity. Today, too, I'm taking mountain coffee with me, even if it's a little heavy and bulky, just for that cup sparkling in the morning glow and for the words "delicious" from my fellow travelers
