This is the second installment of a feature on Maegaki Co., Ltd., a rainwear manufacturer that has been producing GORE-TEX products, which can only be made in a limited number of factories, for over 30 years and receives a steady stream of orders from the world's top outdoor brands

Wouldn't it be nice to have a coat made with cutting-edge, high-performance materials that fits us in the modern world?

First, we asked about how F/ACSION came to be established

"When I was making high-performance rainwear for the outdoors, I thought that although these jackets are incredibly comfortable and functional, they are still used in special places like the field. In that sense, would n't it be nice to have jackets and coats made from cutting-edge, high-performance materials that fit the everyday lives of us today? That thought grew.

As you can see from the fact that trench coats were originally developed as military wear for bad weather, I thought that what we need today could be created using current technology and fashion sense. Of course, that doesn't mean we want to create designs or structures that just follow the latest trends. We want to respect the quality and design that have been passed down as standards over a long history, while using current technology to reconstruct something that can be worn for a long time.

However, we thought it would be difficult to realize this with just our technical capabilities. But then we met Ishisone of Kajimake, a designer who combines the latest outdoor materials with a sense of casual clothing, and we thought, 'Maybe we can do this,' and the idea really took off. When we first approached him about this idea, both Kajimake and Maegaki, both manufacturers with long histories and achievements in the Hokuriku region, immediately hit it off."

Not expensive works of art, but high-quality pieces that you'll want to wear every day

When we asked them about the concept of F/ACSION, they said that it is not about creating luxurious works of art that are out of reach for everyone, but rather, above all, about creating coats that they themselves would actually want to wear out on the town right now

"Because it's something you wear every day, it should be extremely comfortable and safe. Let's create a coat that we city dwellers would most want to wear right now. That was the idea that started this challenge

Thus, we at Maegaki have combined the know-how and latest technology we have cultivated to redevelop from scratch the ideal outerwear for those of us living in the city, and F/ACSION was born

Fabric and cut comparable to high-end outdoor wear

The first thing that will surprise you is the uncompromising waterproof and breathable performance that only Maegaki, who has worked on many high-performance rainwear for authentic outdoor brands, can create. F/ACSION uses a unique three-layer waterproof and breathable material called "BARRIER EFFECT."

The extremely thin, 15-micron-thin membrane (waterproof and breathable) has a water resistance of over 30,000 mm, making it resistant to heavy rain. At the same time, it has excellent water permeability of over 40,000 g/m²/24 hours, allowing moisture inside to escape, rivaling even the most advanced rainwear. Of course, the fabric surface is DWR-treated for excellent water repellency

The lining is made of an ultra-thin 3-layer 7D tricot that keeps you dry at all times, making it extremely lightweight despite its high durability and comfort

In addition, thanks to the calculated three-dimensional cutting and moderate stretch developed through the production of outdoor wear, despite the stylish silhouette, there is no tightness or restriction even when making bold movements, greatly reducing the stress of movement

High quality design and attention to detail

What's even more interesting is that, despite being casual wear for the city, it is packed with details that are designed for ease of use, similar to those found in outdoor items

For example, it is packable, meaning you can roll it up and store it in your pocket. This is a gimmick that is often seen in outdoor products

What's more, by closing the flexible zipper placed discreetly on the side of the pants, they can be transformed into not only overpants but also slim-fitting slacks - an amazing feature

The designs are not bound by trends, but rather are modern and basic, with a harmonious blend of comfortable wearability and stress-free ease of movement, with the aim of creating products that will enrich and enhance everyday life
