MILLET TYPHON 50000 ST JKT
Comfort ★★★ Waterproof ★★☆ Breathability ★★★ Functionality ★★☆ Durability ★☆☆ Value for money ★★☆
Millet's lightweight, highly functional waterproof shell, which boasted an astonishing breathability of 50,000mm in its previous model, the W7 series, has already been significantly upgraded in every respect
First of all, the previous model, which, for better or worse, had a loose fit around the waist and sleeves typical of Japanese models, has been completely revised, resulting in a stylish design that is more slender and common in overseas models. The new model also retains the previous model's excellent waterproof and breathable performance. The proprietary, ultra-thin membrane, "Dry Edge Typhon 50,000," offers a water resistance of 20,000mm, sufficient for rainwear, while achieving an astounding 50,000g of breathability. The three-layer construction, which sandwiches the membrane between a 15D knit lining, feels even better against the skin than the previous model, resulting in a lighter, softer, and more natural feel. Despite the slim silhouette, the three-dimensional cut and stretchy fabric allow for natural movement while walking, ensuring exceptional comfort. The mesh pocket lining and double front zipper allow for additional ventilation. The hood, with its fine adjustment capabilities and elasticated closure, offers a comfortable fit
Of the models we've picked out this time, this is one of the thinner models, so caution is advised when using it in extremely cold temperatures, even in the three seasons, but it is a versatile jacket that is perfect not only as rain gear, but also for keeping warm in mild weather, as a windbreaker on ridges, and even as an everyday outer layer. Incidentally, as I wrote in my review of this item the other day , be sure to check out the highlight of this series, the "rain pants that can also be used as trekking pants on sunny days."
Marmot Thru Hiker Jacket
Comfort ★★★ Waterproof ★★☆ Breathability ★★★ Functionality ★★★ Durability ★☆☆ Value for money ★☆☆
In their home country of the US, they seem to offer many conventional models as a comprehensive outdoor brand, but in Japan they mainly do licensing. For this reason, when it comes to items planned for Japan, we sometimes see bold designs that differ from the image they have in their home country. The latest model we're introducing this time is one of the ultra-light focused item series that the brand has been focusing on in Japan recently. Therefore, we should point out at the outset that this model is a bit unique, being "for hiking on gentle trails in the snow-free season" rather than being an all-rounder
From the front, it looks like simple GORE C-KNIT rainwear, but there are no pockets to be found. Wondering where it could be, I searched and discovered that there was a ventilation system on the side that opened all the way to the bottom. Furthermore, on the lining, there were inner pockets on both sides, which could be accessed by opening the ventilation system. The cuffs, hem, and hood adjustments were all elastic, and the hood wasn't designed for a helmet. While these features are clearly lacking for basic mountain rainwear, they are actually quite practical when considered in terms of the necessary features for comfortable long-term hiking in Japan's hot and humid climate
However, to be honest, I can't say that this is the only thing you need, so it does feel a bit off topic, but I couldn't overlook the appeal of this bold approach that is specifically tailored for hiking in the snow-free season, which is important for many people. It's definitely a piece of clothing I'd like to try out
finetrack Everbreath Photon Jacket
Comfort ★★☆ Waterproof ★★☆ Breathability ★★☆ Functionality ★★☆ Durability ★☆☆ Value for money ★★☆
Finetrack, which focuses on outdoor activities unique to Japan and continues to bring unique and highly functional gear to the world with its own unique approach, will be introducing their newly redesigned lightweight rainwear for this season
The unique "Ever Breath" material, which uses a porous membrane made of a durable polycarbonate-based polyurethane, maintains its supple three-layer construction and maintains its natural stretchability, allowing for natural body movement and comfortable mobility. The unique "Link Vent" ventilation system maximizes moisture release when worn with other Finetrack apparel. Other notable changes in this renewal include a revised cutting pattern for a better fit, a slimmer silhouette, and the addition of a larger exterior chest pocket in addition to a small interior pocket. It's definitely more comfortable, stylish, and easy to use
Incidentally, Finetrack also the Everbreath Vario , which may actually be more versatile. However, if you were to choose which one to wear this year, the improved comfort and fit of the renewed jacket make it worth sacrificing a little versatility, so we recommend considering this model this time around.
Mont-Bell Storm Cruiser Jacket
Comfort ★★★ Waterproof ★★☆ Breathability ★★★ Functionality ★☆☆ Durability ★☆☆ Value for money ★★★
Montbell's classic rain jacket was one of the first to adopt GORE C-KNIT and was a huge success. It's a long-selling product that continues to be at the forefront of potential buyers thanks to its balance of price and quality, lack of quirks, and many other factors. Now in its third year since its renewal, it's undoubtedly one of the most noteworthy models this year
First and foremost, it's top-class lightness, taking full advantage of the characteristics of GORE C-KNIT. While the 20D fabric isn't as durable as other models, it's more than adequate for three-season warm weather. Details like pocket placement and stretchy cuffs for water resistance are well-thought-out, and it's available in a wide variety of colors. If you accept the slightly unfashionable feel of the body as being roomy enough for warm layers underneath, it's safe to say that no other model offers better value for money. This truly is a classic piece that's virtually guaranteed to satisfy anyone, regardless of their purpose
THE NORTH FACE Climb Very Light Jacket
Comfort ★★★ Waterproof ★★☆ Breathability ★★★ Functionality ★★☆ Durability ★☆☆ Value for money ★☆☆
Featuring GORE-TEX C-KNIT, which dominated the headlines in 2015, this jacket offers an excellent balance of lightness and weather resistance, even among The North Face's many lineups. Its meticulous and classic construction has made it a long-selling item, and while its functionality continues this year, it still boasts top-class quality. Not only is it up to 10% lighter and 15% more breathable than traditional GORE-TEX, it also offers a soft feel and supple comfort, while still maintaining its waterproof, windproof, and durable properties. The helmet-compatible hood and two handwarmer pockets, positioned high enough to accommodate harnesses, make it perfect for activities like climbing. While its relatively thin construction may make it difficult to wear all year round, it's a great all-around piece for three-season activities, snowpack, or other active cold-weather activities
