[Breaking News] Report on "GOOD OPEN AIRS 2019" - An irresistible for tent lovers! ~
I went to "GOOD OPEN AIRS 2019," an event that brought together 60 outdoor brands. The event took place on the shores of Lake Miyagase in Kanagawa Prefecture. It was a beautiful sunny day, with the cherry blossoms in full bloom, and it felt wonderful! Many familiar brands were exhibiting, and new gear, tents, and outdoor vehicles were on display. Here's a quick report on what was happening on the day!
table of contents
A mix of old and new gear on display and for sale (and at a reasonable price)
The venue opened at 10am and I arrived at around 11am, but it was already packed with customers
Each booth was bustling with all sorts of gear
NANGA-ya (Mainly selling camping sleeping bags and Aurora down jackets)
To PETZL (there was a wide variety and it was on sale...)
ORTLIEB is a familiar name for cycling enthusiasts. Not only did I find my eye glued to the Atrack, a waterproof backpack with a large opening at the back ( also featured here ), but I was also tempted to buy the colorful GORE WEAR running wear they also sell.
It's a top recommendation in stores
DACHSTEIN, the Austrian national boot brand
There were also several shoe manufacturers on display, and among them were some shoes that you don't often see in mountaineering equipment stores
The name is "Dachstein." It is a brand that was founded in Austria in 1925. Originally a long-established manufacturer of work boots, they also made ski boots in the past (these may be more famous), and they became famous overnight when a woman wearing Dachstein ski boots won a world ski championship. It is a brand that is so well-known in Austria that people say, "When you think of hiking boots, you think of Dachstein!" In Japan, they also sold a lot of hiking boots for the snowy season around the 1990s
previously this article (the Dachstein section), we also exhibited at ISPO Munich.
By the way, the shoes on the left are the "Super Leggera DDS" (made of knit material and completely waterproof), which won the INDUSTRY AWARD at "OutDoor Friedrichshafen"
The brand entered the Japanese market in 2015, but will begin full-scale product development this fall and winter. It appears that the main target audience is women, which is also an unusual concept that is attracting attention
Urban outdoor water bottle discovered!
I continued to wander around. I found a Sierra cup with a cute logo,
They were selling thermoses and tumblers, and that's where I found this bottle
Simple and stylish! Rivers, a company that makes drinkware, came up with this bottle based on customer feedback that they wanted a bottle that could be used both in town and outdoors. It comes in three sizes and is made of Tritan, so it's sturdy and can even handle boiling water. I really wanted one, and it's scheduled for release in May. I'd love to try it out and compare it with my current favorite Nalgene bottle
A jewel box of a tent
We proceed to the tent exhibition area
To Hillberg,
To Nordisk,
To Big Agnes,
Fjallraven too (rare!)
Tents, tents, tents as far as the eye can see. 100 tents might be an exaggeration, but there are a huge number of them. The view is simply breathtaking
Don't miss the NEMO tent
We also have NEMO tents, which are rarely seen on display in stores, set up in full swing
This year's new product, Hornet Storm (pictured below)
Atom 1P (photo below)
Daggerstorm (photo below)
The Hornet in particular has been updated more than ever before, with both the 1P and 2P models now weighing less than 1kg! It's an ultralight model that maintains livability while still being extremely light. I also own the NEMO Obi 2P tent, and I've always thought it has a spacious living space and an excellent design. Apparently, the person who designed the NEMO tents is an MIT graduate, so that makes sense
A new tent called "Rocket 2P" was released, but it wasn't on display that day. I was amazed by its design. I was also amazed at how light it was (620g). About 600g for a two-person tent! Apparently, the new tent coming out in the fall and winter will be even more amazing. Let's look forward to what NEMO has to offer in the future
MSR Tent Heaven
There was also a huge selection of MSR tents. Like NEMO, this was the first time I'd seen so many MSR tents, and I was a little excited. They had the updated PAPA HUBBA NX (pictured below),
HUBBA HUBBA NX (photo below)
By the way, the older model, Hubba Hubba NX (photo below), was also on display
In comparison, the vestibule fabric color has been updated to red for easier visibility. The poles are made with Easton's Cyclone Poles, which combine the best of aluminum and carbon fiber, and the Rainflight floor is coated with the Extreme Shield System, a coating that lasts approximately three times longer than conventional products. Furthermore, the seam tape has been eliminated thanks to the use of water-swelling threads and stitching techniques, eliminating the need for seam tape and eliminating the need to worry about the tape deteriorating, making this a model you can cherish for many years to come
There is also a base camp hub (see photo below)
The ultimate tent for alpinists: Advance Pro 2 (pictured below)
I was also able to see tents that I don't usually get to see. So they're going to climb famous mountains around the world with these. That's amazing... (staring with admiration)
There was also an exhibition of outdoor vehicles and camper vans in another area, making it a satisfying event that could be enjoyed for the entire day
