Mike Graham of the legendary climbing group "THE STONE MASTERS" is coming to Japan!

In the 1950s, America was a "terribly boring" place where everyone wanted a safe and comfortable life

The Beat Generation and the counterculture wave appeared like a spitfire on urban life, which had previously had no connection to this adventurous spirit. Captivated by the ideas of Jack Kerouac and others, young people fled the city and, defying common sense and gravity, found themselves in Yosemite, California. The gigantic granite rocks polished by glaciers instantly captivated them

The history of rock climbing in Yosemite thus began, and in the 1970s it gave birth to a new climbing culture known as "free climbing," and today Yosemite is known around the world as one of the meccas for rock climbing

Mike Graham, a member of "The Stone Masters," a legendary group of climbers who achieved numerous first ascents of routes in Yosemite in the 1970s, the dawn of free climbing, will be visiting Japan. To coincide with this visit, a slide show and talk event will be held on September 21st at the Tokyo outdoor select shop "Outdoor, Relax by Masudakohboh." This rare opportunity will allow visitors to experience the moment when 1970s counterculture and outdoor culture intersected through rare photographs and his own voice, including scenes of him climbing with his friends from his childhood, pioneering one route after another

Thanks to a number of connections, Outdoor Gearzine will be coordinating and hosting this exciting event! On the day, there will be free drinks available after the slide show and talk show, so please feel free to stop by on your way home from work!

After his time at Yosemite, Mike Graham launched the climbing wear brand Gramicci. However, he was not satisfied with that and sold the brand. After that, as an outdoor enthusiast, he launched ROKX in 2000 with the aim of creating products that he was satisfied with. This event also serves as a promotional event for that brand
