[Notice] I contributed to "RUN+TRAIL Vol.17 (April 2016 issue)"

DSC03675I wrote a six-page article on the theme of "ultra-lightweight rainwear" in "RUN+TRAIL Vol.17" published by Sanei Shobo and released today (2/27)!

At the beginning of this year, I was approached by an editor who agreed with the purpose of this site, and since then I have been working steadily on it, and now that the release date has finally arrived, I can finally tell you all about it. This is the first time that Outdoor Gearzine has been featured in other media

As for the contents, this issue features a special on outdoor (trail running) gear titled "GEAR MANIAX," and our site is in charge of how to choose rainwear

WILD -1 staff member Jin Aoki shares his tips for choosing the latest rainwear

The article is broadly divided into two topics. The first half is original content made for this magazine, in which we speak directly to Mr. Aoki (WILD-1 Tama New Town store), a "materials geek" and actual outdoor shop staff member, about the latest trends in choosing rainwear. As you'd expect from someone who talks with a variety of customers every day, he clearly and specifically explained the points that beginners often find stumbling when choosing rainwear. As an aside, most of the interview was interesting, but as rumored, it was full of nerdy and risky topics! We had to reluctantly cut out a lot of it. However, we hope to reflect the essence of these things, or not, for readers of this site in the future, so please look forward to it

Comparison test: "What should you look for when choosing ultra-lightweight rainwear?"

DSC03672

The second half of the article is about "ultralight rainwear," a popular topic on this site, and is based on our familiar comparative tests, but has been re-examined and revised to fit the theme of trail running. The article was originally written with hiking in mind, but since this type of rainwear is actually a perfect item for active new sports like trail running, we were told that it might also be useful for trail running enthusiasts, so we decided to give it a try. Of course, to achieve this, we looked up new materials, spoke to several runners, and actually ran the same familiar courses to retest, and thanks to the editor's efforts, we believe the resulting comparative report will be useful for trail running as well

A must-read for hikers and trail runners!

Although the content is mainly about trail running, it is packed with information that is useful for the outdoors in general, such as materials and how to care for clothing, so this issue is sure to be enjoyed by a wide range of people

Mountaineering and trail running tend to seem like mutually exclusive pursuits, but that's a shame. Though their approaches to nature are different, they're the same in that they enrich life through the mountains; both are forms of expression that use nature as a field. By actually learning about the good points of each, you might realize that you've simply disliked each other without trying them first—at least, that's how we think about it on this site. So, I'd love for people who only know mountaineering to pick up this magazine and get to know trail running, and for people who only know trail running to take a look at this site. We'd be thrilled if we could each get a little taste of each other's worlds and come to think that both seem like fun

So, all outdoor enthusiasts across the country should definitely pick up a copy and read it!
