Although it's a little late, I have contributed an article about the European outdoor trade fair "The OutDoor Show Friedrichshafen 2016 (hereinafter referred to as ODShow)," which was partially introduced on this site the other day, to "RUN+TRAIL Vol.20 (October 2016 issue)" published by Sanei Shobo and released on August 27th!
This is Outdoor Gearzine's second time contributing to RUN+TRAIL, but this time the theme wasn't something that I was originally asked to contribute, but rather something that came about when I appealed to the editorial department and said, "I'm going to the ODShow!" I'm very happy about this, as I feel that being able to get real-time information and a real feel for the atmosphere about overseas outdoor culture and industry, which hasn't been widely available in Japan until now, is essential to understanding the depth and appeal of the globally shared outdoor culture. On the other hand, to be honest, it's quite tiring to continue these interviews every year, all at my own expense, so at this point I'm hoping that articles like this that have been picked up by various media outlets will help cover some of the costs of my reporting, and I'd be very grateful if I can continue next year
Because this article is handled separately from the magazine's special feature (a feature on Japanese racers at the World Trail Running Championships), when you open the magazine, this article jumps out at you right before the table of contents. In order to convey a sense of realism, we took the opportunity to use a generous amount of photos we had taken across six pages. The visual impact is something you can only get with print media!
The brands featured have also been re-selected for trail running. In addition to trail running brands that are not so well known in Japan, such as SCOTT and InStinct, we have also included small, interesting European brands that have not yet arrived in Japan and have not yet been featured on the website, in order to convey the atmosphere of the exhibition as a whole
In Japan, trail running and mountain climbing are often seen as mutually exclusive activities, but overseas, although the circumstances are different, they are enjoyed without any barriers as activities that allow people to enjoy nature. If you can get a feel for this atmosphere, I'm sure that not only trail running enthusiasts but also outdoor enthusiasts will be interested, so please pick up a copy and give it a read!
