Outdoor Gearzine 10th Anniversary Part 2: Everyone is a Seller at the Outdoor Gear Flea Market 2024
is!
Project 1: We are offering up to 90% off all reviewed mountain gear purchased with your own money on Outdoor Gearzine!
Up until now, Outdoor Gearzine has purchased a lot of outdoor gear for review writing, research, or simply for materialistic reasons, and has sold items that are still usable even after the review to our readers at flea markets
However, over the past few years, due to COVID-19 and other factors, it has been difficult to hold large flea market events in Tokyo, and as a result, my mountain gear warehouse is currently almost full. I thought it was about time to do it, so I'm going to sell off all the gear I've accumulated over the past few years at a discount of 50-90%! It can be done online, but a flea market where you can talk to people in person is still fun
Of course, all items on sale are one-of-a-kind, so it's basically first come, first served, so don't miss out
Based on past experience, if everything is first come, first served, there is a possibility that the event will be overwhelmed with participants at the start. Of course, we would love to have a large number of participants, but if the venue becomes too chaotic, it could lead to various accidents, such as disrupting the progress of the event or causing a nuisance to neighbors
Listed items and expected selling prices (added 11/19)
With just two weeks to go until the auction, we've compiled a list of the items that will be on sale on the day and their estimated selling prices! Please see the Google spreadsheet below
*Please note that for items marked with a "★" in the list, we have determined that there may be an overwhelming number of applicants, so we will be selling them by lottery!
View all items for sale at the flea market
There are so many items planned for release that I can't list them all here haha. I'd say it's roughly 70% of what's planned for release
But the fun of a flea market "what kind of bargains you'll find on the day ." Please relax, and even if an item isn't listed here, it may be added on the day, so please enjoy the excitement!
However, on the other hand, there may be some items written here that cannot be listed due to an unexpected accident (although we hope this will not happen), so please be aware of this
<h3″>Project 2: [A gift from Lost Arrow to everyone] The first 35 people to purchase from the flea market will receive a compact lantern, the Black Diamond Moji (old model)!
This time, Lost Arrow, who has helped us with interviews and other matters this season, provided all participants with wonderful gifts!
The first 35 customers to purchase at the flea market cash register will receive a free Black Diamond Moji (old model), a simple and easy-to-use camping lantern that can be hung or placed on a table (available in three colors)

All other purchasers will receive an original Outdoor Gearzine tenugui towel as a gift!
Even if you unfortunately missed out on the first offer, all purchasers at the flea market from now on will receive an original Outdoor Gearzine printed tenugui towel as a gift!

Project 3: Let's all set up a stall together and share our mountain gear with fellow mountain lovers for years to come! (Even just one item is welcome)
*Updated 11/19: Due to the large number of applications, applications to open a store have now closed
"Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a flea market where only gear enthusiasts like Outdoor Gearzine readers could gather?" This was a thought that came to mind, and it became a project that I had always wanted to try
We all have items that we no longer use, but that are still perfectly usable and it would be a shame to throw them away
So, we encourage all participants to try setting up a flea market stall selling tools that you no longer use to help others
At the event, those who have registered in advance will be able to set up a shop freely by spreading out the items they have brought with them in the space at the venue. Even just one item is fine. We hope you will feel free to join us.
It is clear that the Earth will not be able to sustain itself if we continue with mass production and mass consumption in the coming age, and "repair, reuse, and recycle" will become the norm. We understand that it is important to continue using one tool for a long time, but we also want to use many tools. What should we do? One answer could be grassroots circular economy activities like this. We look forward to receiving many applications!
*Updated 11/19: Due to the large number of applications, applications to open a store have now closed
Project 4: A talk session with the designer of the mysterious new outdoor brand "arata" has been decided
First of all, as I mentioned briefly in my review article the other day, we have a guest talk! This time, we will be inviting Sugime-san, the founder and designer of "arata," a new Japanese outdoor brand that was launched this season

Sugime's relationship with Outdoor Gearzine can be traced back to about five years ago, when he founded Teishin Tech and introduced a unique cooker to Gearzine as an agent for a Chinese outdoor cooking equipment brand called Fire-Maple
I regularly receive requests to review gear from manufacturers and brands whose names I don't know, so the inquiry itself is not unusual, but Sugime's email was different. I will never forget how much depth of knowledge, awareness of the issues, and passion he displayed were far more intense than any other email I've ever received
At the time, the only image people in Japan had of China was "counterfeit goods," but I had just traveled to China to cover the outdoor exhibition "Asia Outdoor Trade Show 2017" at my own expense and had a real feel for the country's strength and boundless potential, so I was even more excited to see that "someone had started dealing in genuine Chinese brands!"
After that, Teishin Tech became the official Japanese distributor of MOBI GARDEN, a brand so talented that I was impressed when I saw it in person, and steadily expanded the range of items they handled. They also began to delve into original development, such as creating models made specifically for Japan. Even back then, Sugime-san's deep and wide-ranging insight into tents (who has been involved in a wide range of product designs, including home appliances and automobiles) was incredible
During this time, I maintained regular contact with Sugime, talking about the outdoor scene in China and various ideas for new gear that had come to mind, and I looked forward to his next move while dreaming of the future
The crystallization of Sugime's overflowing ideas and drive is his original tent, the "arata AX series."
I've written a lot, but what I'm trying to say is that the "arata" brand has roots that are completely different from previous outdoor brands, and it is a brand that is full of appeal and potential, with unparalleled technical skills and production capabilities
I feel that I need to let more people know about this, and that is the main reason I am holding this talk event
At the event, we'd like to ask Sugime-san as much as time allows about the path he's taken with Arata, what he's thinking about now, and the future of outdoor gear, so please look forward to it!
Project 5: Four brand pop-up stores to open! (Updated 11/19)
At the event, we are planning a flea market by Outdoor Gearzine and our readers, but we have also decided to add a garage brand to the event!
Participating brand ① arata
"arata" will be holding the talk event, will also be setting up a pop-up shop on the day!
【arata】
arata is an outdoor brand originating from Japan. We provide valuable products and services by always looking at new perspectives and making continuous improvements. The greatest feature of the backbone that produces arata's products is our company's "technical capabilities." Our designers have enjoyed manufacturing since their student days, and have been involved in the design of a wide variety of products, including automobiles, home appliances, industrial machinery, robots, formula cars, inspection equipment, and medical equipment
Arata combines these technical capabilities with its extensive outdoor experience to create outdoor products from an engineer's perspective that the company itself would actually want to use and that people would want to recommend to their friends

Brand 2: Glider

"glider," applied after seeing the announcement for this event . They are a garage brand that creates simple, lightweight, and easy-to-use mountaineering equipment that people would want to use themselves! They also had a stall at the "GEARLOOP MARKET" held recently in Yoyogi Park, and apparently all their products were sold out. This is your chance to find new items that you don't often get to try out!
[glider]
This is a garage brand that is dedicated to creating products that the company would want to use in the mountains
Not only is it lightweight, but it is also strong thanks to the special stitching and construction, so you can use it without hesitation for everything from everyday use to strenuous mountain climbing

Participating brand 3: Baa Rram Ewe

Baa Rram Ewe , an outdoor apparel brand for women that is also a reader of Outdoor Gearzine and has participated in our offline events many times .
The event looks set to be one that female enthusiasts and readers will also enjoy!

[Baa Rram Ewe]
A mountaineering wear brand with the concept of "creating clothes that allow women to be themselves, whether in the mountains or in the city."
This is a brand launched in 2023 by a woman who loves mountains!
We offer clothing with a stylish design that is functional enough for use in the mountains but can also be worn in the city
This time, we plan to sell original clothing as well as [SN] (Supernatural) collaboration products
In addition to our e-commerce site, we also have a store in Nerima
Keyaki no Oto Terrace, 5-11-18 Sakuradai, Nerima-ku, Tokyo 176-0002
Participating brand 4: SO FAR SO GOOD
Another applicant this time was "SO FAR SO GOOD," a brand that designs and produces handmade gear based on their own experiences. The gear is available online, as well as at six stores nationwide, including Hikers Depot and GRiPS!
[SO FAR SO GOOD]
A Japanese garage brand that started in 2018. The female owner handles everything from design to production, and the handmade gear is created from a female perspective based on her own experiences of mountain climbing and trail running
On the day, we plan to exhibit mainly our popular product "Waltz DX", including samples for photography, field-tested samples, and prototype samples
This is a great opportunity to get inspired and have fun by interacting with readers and writers who don't usually get to meet, and with fellow outdoor enthusiasts from different manufacturers! Come with your friends and family and create some great memories at the final Outdoor Gearzine 10th anniversary event!

*Admission will be limited to those who have paid the participation fee, so we would appreciate it if you would join the "OFUSE Standard Membership" in advance

4)
After the talk ends (probably around 2pm), I will draw one raffle ticket from a lottery box , and the winner will be able to make a purchase.
Please note that if you are not present at the event or any other irregularities are found, your winnings will be revoked
This is the flow of the lottery sale. If you have any questions, please contact us
Lastly, an important request: Please cooperate to avoid confusion on the day (added 11/19)
Many participants are expected immediately after the event starts (12:00 noon) on the day of the event. However, as the venue is a general rental space, any behavior that may cause a nuisance to the neighbors must be avoided at all costs
Therefore, in order to ensure that the event runs smoothly and without any disruption, and to minimize the burden on everyone, we will be establishing the following rules regarding entry on the day. We ask for your understanding and cooperation so that all participants can enjoy the event safely and with peace of mind until the very end
Admission on the day
- Please refrain from any behavior that may cause inconvenience to the local neighborhood, such as near the venue to wait for your turn or lingering at or near the venue for any other
- For the first hour after the event starts (12:00-13:00), priority will be given to members. If you want to get in as early as possible, Outdoor Gearzine's OFUSE Standard Membership in advance (even if that's not your goal, we're always happy to welcome members who support Outdoor Gearzine!). Even if priority is given to members, non-members can also enter if there is room in the venue. Please check at the entrance to the venue to see if this is possible (we will be announcing the situation on X and other platforms on the day).
- If the number of visitors exceeds the limit, we may be forced to restrict entry . In that case, we will inform you of the time when the entry restrictions will be lifted, and we ask that you please wait until then.
- Also, in the unlikely event that the number of people applying for the lottery sales exceeds the capacity of the venue, the venue will be overwhelmed when the winners are announced, so we are considering switching to notifying the winners by email. Therefore, we may ask you to provide an email address where we can contact you when you register for the lottery on the day, so we ask for your understanding and cooperation in this case
When we announced the items for sale on the member page yesterday, we received a great deal of feedback, and as we anticipated confusion on the day, we were forced to quickly implement these rules. It's possible that the event will proceed normally without any confusion, or that we may see a larger turnout than expected. To be honest, as an organizer, I'm nervous. In the unlikely event that the situation changes further, we may need to ask for your cooperation again, but we will do our best to respond flexibly to avoid confusion and disappointment, including on the day itself, so we need your cooperation. Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated
We will continue to update you on any further developments as they occur, so don't miss out! We look forward to seeing you there!
