Ambassador check out Workman's new autumn/winter releases! [6] Explore the best layering for trail running

Workmanware is updated and new features are added every season.

Many of the catalogs use cut photos of running scenes, which is why expectations are high. Even after the tax increase, it's the best value for money and there's no problem if it's for practice, but this time we've put a rigorous test of the fall and winter model from a runner's perspective, including whether it's at a level that can be used in races.

Workman's trail running wear review

1275 MOVE FLASH Block Fleece High Neck (Running Recommendation Level ★★★★☆) 980 yen

Manufacturer's Points

  1. The block fleece lining has excellent heat retention
  2. Reflective prints on both shoulders

A base layer that allows you to experience the benefits of block fleece at a low price. I still love Workman Block Fleece from three seasons ago.

In comparison, it seems to be more resistant to cold. For example, the mesh material under the armpits is no longer available. The blocking eyes have also become larger and the number of areas that come into contact with the skin has increased.

The block fleece lining is a new model (left) and a larger block (right). While the heat retention has improved, I'm concerned about the breathability, but I didn't notice much of a sweat rejuvenation.

It is heavy 270g (230g old block fleece model) for use on trail running. The ease of movement is better than the old model, which is loose and makes it easier to layer. The plainly evolved flat stitching eliminates the risk of rubbing and is more comfortable to wear. To make use of the heat retention of thick fabric, it is easier to use in an environment below 8°C, making it suitable for winter trails. It is sweat-absorbent and quick-drying at a normal level, but it was also fully usable on the town run at 13°C in Kokanabeyori. This is a really useful and recommended item.

It is made easy to swing your arms. It feels good on the skin and I want to wear it forever.

I'm not an All Workman, but wearing dry wear underneath reduced sweat rejuvenation and made it even more comfortable. From here on, I'll be hoping for an ambassador... You can use it in a wide range of seasons, so if you have a lineup of zipper models and block sizes, it will be the best base layer. If you run with a trail run with a closed high neck type, you might have to get a full-open run and the heat won't be able to be released in time. Also, if you use reflective tape at the bottom of the body, it will not be worn or invisible with a backpack. MOVE FLASH was the first place we can expect in the future.

11583 Rising Trail Tights (Outdoor Recommendation Level ★★☆☆☆) 980 yen

Manufacturer's Points

  1. The fleece peach brushed has excellent heat retention
  2. Support to reduce muscle shaking

A problem with layering pants when riding in winter is the winter. Tights in particular are inconvenient to put on and take off, making it difficult to regulate body temperature. That's why many people have recently decided to choose leg covers. Still, I would like to choose tights when it's really cold. I love using fine track tights in races, but I have had the experience of torn it during practice. Also, during practice, I use only good value products. Although it cannot compete with high-spec products from outdoor manufacturers in terms of functionality, it is not possible to enjoy training in winter.

The brushed peach lining makes it a little hot for running. The elastic at the waist is also thick. It restricts movement.

Brushed fleece peach. Warm material is used in many winter models of Workman products. Unfortunately, it wasn't very suitable for training runs. First of all, it's too warm (1). The problem is that it cannot accommodate temperature differences in the mountains. It's fine if the weather is always below 10°C and the sun is not exposed. Next, the brushed and compression make the skin feel less slippery and stiff (2). And it's easy to get stuffy (3). The waist is also wide (4). Furthermore, peach brushed dries slowly when wet (5). If this is the cold, I would like to choose the MOVE ACTIVE leggings for the spring and summer model.

Oops, this will ruin the layering plan for Workman, the best value-effective company (crying) Yes, that's right, if that's the case, let's try wearing it on the inside out. Then, it seems that he has overcome the weaknesses of (1), (2), (3). It's a true trick (lol). This makes it easy to move around in a standard way, and is warmer and easier to drive than the spring and summer models. However, I tried combining it with a dry layer like Finetrack Skin Mesh, but it did not have the effect of improving sweat absorption and quick drying. Cheats are not the correct way to use them, but only when you use up all the tools is valuable. If you're interested, be sure to try it.

2092 MOVE ACTIVE WIND Hoodie (Outdoor Recommendation Level ★★★☆☆) 980 yen

Heat retention and humidity control ◯ Sweat absorption and quick drying ◯ Stretch × Feel on the skin ◯ Breathability ◯ Water repellent × Wind resistance ◎

Manufacturer's Points

  1. High density fabric that is lightweight but does not easily allow cold air to pass through
  2. Left chest zipper pocket for convenient cards and coin purses

This summer and autumn model was chosen because it was particular about layering for winter training runs.

I was troubled by a random midshell when I set the base layer to MOVE FLASH. To be honest, the typical fall/winter models have over-spec heat retention. The key to traveling on winter trails is the compact and lightweight gear selection, but this is a whopping 155g. It's light enough. The soft side of the skin is generally soft, but the silhouette is not stretchy, but it is easy to swing your arms. I didn't feel any stress even after wearing it for long periods of time.

MOVE ACTIVE WIND hoodie front. Wear with a good design and size

The high-density fabric has moderate breathability, making it excellent wind resistance and moisture control. This is the best match for the base layer. I was satisfied with the serious layering that Workman could have done.

The thing that bothered me was the pockets. (1) The chest pocket is a little small. Large smartphones these days don't fit. (2) I would like zippers on both side pockets too. Pocketable model if possible.

The iPhone 7 fits perfectly, but although it doesn't mean that it won't fit large smartphones, it doesn't fit well.

Workman products will not be resold if they run out of stock. I purchased this test product in December, but I'm lucky if it's in stock at the store. However, if you can hold back on the ease of driving a little, you can also use Workman's highly water-repellent mountain parka as a substitute.

summary

Workmanwear has been perfected in a short period of time, and is full of promising elements. There is no doubt that we will continue to keep an eye on it in the future. What impressed me most was the improvement in sewing techniques. I felt that the improvement in comfort involved the finishing touches. It's not something I'd like to actively use in races yet, but there's no doubt that it's gone beyond the level I used up until last year. In the running series, we will also be considering outer ciel, so stay tuned!
