A great opportunity to learn about the reborn GORE-TEX and the future of outdoor wear. Talk event "Patagonia × GORE-TEX: The Future of Technical Shell"
I've started discord
The new GORE-TEX product, which has finally been reborn as PFC-free, is expanding one after another this season.
For those of us who love outdoors, words like "PFAS" and "PFC" are often heard so often that there is no day when we don't hear them. Until now, it has been an indispensable part of the outdoor world, where high functionality is required as one of the chemicals that make up the waterproof and breathable membranes used in water-repellent processing of various outdoor gears and rainwear.
However, while it has these excellent characteristics, these organic fluorine compounds, also known as "eternal chemicals" in English, are difficult to break down in nature or within the body, and are likely to accumulate once they are produced, and in recent years the harmful nature of these organic fluorine compounds is becoming increasingly a problem, and in recent years many outdoor, sports and apparel brands have been rapidly developing alternative PFC technologies and products that do not require the use of these harmful substances.
However, the water-repellent properties of PFC were very excellent, so it is not easy to quickly move to an alternative technology with the same level of functionality. Of course, great features are welcome for outdoor enthusiasts, but that doesn't mean they can continue to use items that have a negative impact on the human body and the environment. After a long period of "bearing" that had been suffering from this dilemma, GORE-TEX, one of the top brands of waterproof and breathable materials for the outdoors, has finally developed a "stretched polyethylene (ePE) membrane" that does not contain organic fluorine compounds last season. Some manufacturers have begun selling waterproof and breathable jackets that use the so-called "PFC-free GORE-TEX."
This season, the number of products adopted will be expanded and will also be adopted in high-end models aimed at activities that require higher performance (Nippon Gore is said to be able to transition most of its general consumer product lineup by the end of 2025). We are looking forward to reviewing this new GORE-TEX hard shell, which has been awaited by Outdoor Gearzine, in tough fields such as BC skiing and snowy mountain climbing this season, so please look forward to it.
