[Fastest Review] "AEROGOGO GIGA PUMP Air" - a high-power, ultra-lightweight air pump that weighs just 28 grams and fits in the palm of your hand
This time, I'd like to talk about something I've been personally digging into this season: small electric pumps for air mattresses.
Simply put, while inflatable sleeping pads (air mattresses) previously required manual inflation via mouth or pump sack, this gear automatically inflates the air using a motorized fan.
Recently, new products have been appearing one after another from various companies, and the voting period for the project on KICKSTARTER overseas ended the other day, and the ultra-lightweight air pump that everyone has been waiting for, the GIGA PUMP Air from AEROGOGO , has finally arrived. The small box contained the equally small main unit and several pump adapters. It was delivered in very simple packaging.
When you hold it, just as rumored, it's so light (28 grams) that it's practically weightless. The device itself is about the size of a thumb, and even with the cable it fits in the palm of your hand.
Looking at the structure, one side of the main body has an injection port (see photo below) which also functions as a nozzle.
One side is the outlet (see photo below).
The device comes with a short USB-C cable, which you can connect to a power bank or other portable charger and it will start pumping (or pumping) air right away.
If the provided cable is not long enough, you can also operate the device by connecting your own USB-C cable to the other visible USB-C port.
When carrying it around, you can plug the cable into this USB-C port and hang it on a carabiner (center of the photo below).
There are several adapters available to fit different mattress nozzle shapes.
However, even though it's supposed to be compatible with the "NEMO" mattress when nothing is attached, it can still be injected, but if you don't hold it down with your hand while injecting, it will fall out. Overall, the construction of the adapter and nozzle for this injection port is poor, which I personally found disappointing.
By the way, there was no problem with Ther-ma-rest (see photo below).
Rab and arata mattresses also performed well when left alone (see photo below).
I immediately injected the air mattress. It was so powerful.
Above all, the value of this product is that it can automatically inject air.
I immediately tried it out on the NEMO Tensor Trail to see how it felt.
It's very easy to do.
Simply insert the GIGA PUMP Air injection nozzle into the air mattress's injection port and connect a mobile battery.
The wind force was so powerful it was comparable to that of the larger pumps we had used before.
In just under 43 seconds, the NEMO air mattress was fully inflated to maximum air pressure.
*You can see the entire process in this video.
This type of electric pump, which claims to be ultra-compact, often has weak output and slow filling, but this model is not like that at all. It even achieves high output at the same level as a full-fledged battery-powered model.
However, the noise level is a little low to call it "quiet," so you might be a little wary of using it in a quiet tent. However, it only lasts for a few seconds, so if you're using it inside a tent, it's probably not something you'll be too concerned about.
Another concern is power consumption. It only consumes 40mAh for about one minute of inflation, so each inflation uses about 25mAh. This means a standard 10,000mAh mobile battery can inflate the air mattress 400 times. Alternatively, the iPhone 16 Pro's battery is 3,582mAh, so it's easier to understand if you think of it as about 0.7% of the power of a smartphone battery. Either way, the power consumption is negligible.
By the way, this electric pump can be used not only to inflate air mattresses, but also as a blower to replace a fire blower.
This will also reduce the weight and luggage required if you eliminate the need for a pump sack that comes with the air mattress. In conclusion, this is the most user-friendly electric pump sack I have ever used. For now, it will definitely be on my standard equipment list for tent hiking and stream climbing.
The project is currently still ongoing in Japan on MAKUAKE, so if you're interested, be sure to check it out.
[Updated November 17, 2025] Another noteworthy model has appeared
While I was writing this article, I discovered that a new model has been released that promises even better performance than this model.
Once I got this far, there was no turning back. I immediately backed into the project. I'll report back on it soon once it arrives.
