Performance, quality and price are all reasonable. A high-value-performance tent only known for those who know Mobi Garden LIGHT WINGS DAC UL1 Review

Back four years ago, we first met at an outdoor exhibition in Nanjing, China, Mobi Garden, , and has once again delivered a tent of amazement.

This time, I would like to review the feel of Mobi Garden

What kind of tent is LIGHT WINGS DAC UL1? ~Basic features~

The LIGHT WINGS DAC UL1 is the company's lightest mountain tent by Mobi Garden, which has the top share in the Chinese outdoor tent market. This is an all-season, self-supporting, double-wall, solo mountain tent that combines lightness, robustness, ease of construction, and comfort. This is the first time we have adopted a lightweight pole made by DAC, a well-known high-quality tent pole brand, and despite being light at about 1kg, it has a smart construction that can be set up in just a few minutes, and is fully livable and durable. In addition to the half-mesh type (Chinese specification), two versions of the inner tent are available: ultra-thin nylon, a breathable water-repellent fabric type (Japanese specification). It also features a high cost performance that provides a full set of 10 high-quality pegs, a footprint, and a guyline as standard, while achieving reasonable prices.

Recommended points

  • Integrated design that can be set up in just 2-3 minutes
  • Highly customizable, allowing for shelter styles with only flys
  • Durable enough for a lightweight tent
  • Each part is well-built and wallet-friendly even if you include all the pegs and footprints.

Interesting points

  • I want pocket storage in the inner tent
  • The space above is somewhat cramped
  • Breathability of ventilation
  • Fly hanging hook is slightly stiff

LIGHT WINGS DAC UL1 Detailed Review

No need for unnecessary options. We'll be excited to have a reasonable price that has everything you need

Lightweight tents these days tend to emphasize lightness, and the minimum amount of necessary items, including the accessories inside, is often needed, but this is a great help to those who are used to having multiple tents, but how many pegs do you need? Do you always need a footprint? In reality, people who are purchasing a tent for the first time are often confused.

In this regard, the LIGHT WINGS DAC UL1 comes with a full set from the start, including the main unit, rainfly, and poles, as well as 10 pegs, a guyline and a footprint, so even first-time buyers don't have to worry about.

When stored, the size is not extremely compact for a single person, but considering it all as a set, it is not too big at all. As for the weight, the actual measured weight for the entire set is 1,320g, but if you don't include footprints, you can cut it down to the very least 1.1kg, and if you cut it down to the very least 700g, if you only have a fly pole set.

What's more, it's wonderful that each of these parts is not a collection of pieces, but is stacked with high quality materials and construction that are satisfying.

For example, the tent pole and pegs are made of DAC. Speaking of DAC, it is a high-end brand that supplies high-quality aluminum poles that are both light, durable, and moderately flexible, and quickly repaints the power of authentic tent poles around the world, making it a high-end brand that will keep even crying children quiet. What's more, the types with the "GREEN" logo are manufactured using a special technology called "Green Anodized," and are a sustainable product line that minimizes the environmental impact such as the release of toxic substances. Normally, this is an item that simply uses this part and the price would be no use even if it jumps over 10,000 yen.

The fly sheet uses 15D nylon ripstop, which is thin, flexible and durable. The fabric is waterproof with silicon coating, which is less likely to deteriorate over time and is more durable than polyurethane coating. This is also the specification that is generally used in high-end tents at high-end prices.

There are two types of inner tents. One is high-density fine mesh material with excellent breathability in hot weather. The other is a non-mesh type that is highly demanded for mountains in Japan, where there are many rain and winds, and uses 10D breathable ripstop nylon with a ventilation and water-repellent finish (the entrance is double-layered with mesh). This product is made with a certain level of weather resistance to rain and wind, while achieving moisture permeability, and is lightweight than mesh material, making it a very light piece of material, making it a very light piece when used in Japan.

However, although I was prepared to some extent, even though it was a breathable and breathable fabric, of course, it did not keep any moisture inside the room at all. This tent is no exception so you've never come across a tent that doesn't condense at all, and if you sleep overnight, there's quite a bit of condensation (the photo below shows you a test of steam from a kettle filled with hot water and trying to get some steam out of it in a short amount of time), so don't expect too much.

You can set it up in no time! Super fast and simple setup system

To put it simply, the ease of setting up this tent is impressive. Anyone who has set up once will be amazed at how easy it is to set up. Seeing is a sight to behold, and in less than 2 minutes, the setting up is almost perfect.

One of the secrets that makes setting up so quickly is the integrated structure that allows you to connect three parts: an inner tent, rainfly, and footprint with a buckle in advance (photo below).

The structure is integrated with the footprint, inner and fly with buckles at the four corners.

The flight inner tent is connected to key points with a small buckle as shown in the photo, and is tensioned.

Because this body is integrated, all parts are fixed by simply inserting the tip of the extended pole into the simple aluminum connection hardware at the four corners. At this point, the inner tent is hidden under the fly, so there is no need to worry about getting wet even when setting up in the rain.

The flexible and highly durable DAC pole is divided into four branches by two joints, making it a smart structure that allows the entire body to stand on its own.

All you have to do is hook the hook on the fly and almost set up the tent. There are also a wide selection of pegs that you can drive as needed, including 10 for the four corners of the tent, including each side of the fly, and for the Guyline. Isn't it amazing that the tightly packed tents are set up in just over two minutes?

There is one entrance on the long side.

Highly customizable, allowing for shelter styles with only flys

The structure, with the tent pole on the outside of the fly and the inner tent can be used in an interesting way depending on the taste and circumstances.

For example, you can build only the fly (and footprint) without attaching an inner tent from the beginning. If you bring this set with you when it's hot in the summer or when you want to lighten your luggage, you can also use lighter equipment to climb mountains. Of course, it is easy to install the inner tent from this state.

A sufficient living space and attention to detail that doesn't make you feel uncomfortable

The thin nylon material entrance is double zippered to open in a large U-shaped shape, making it easy to open and close (photo below).

The version I tested was a single water-repellent fabric, but the version currently on sale is nicely because it has a double layer structure of water-repellent fabric and mesh, making it convenient to adjust ventilation according to the temperature.

The room is spacious enough for solo use. The vestibule between the fly and the entrance is also empty, if not spacious, so you can place your backpack or shoes.

Even if you place a regular size mat on it, there is still room for space beside your pillow, and there is plenty of space to put your luggage.

The vertical length is just 2m, slightly shorter than Western tents, which I thought was just right for me as a Japanese person. The shape of the tent is narrower as it moves from the entrance to the feet, but the upper body is somewhat tall and wide, so it's not too bothersome. However, the clearance near the face is not so wide, and it is a bit disappointing that it is relatively low compared to the cutting edge of the current situation.

The thick waterproof fabric at the bottom, including the feet, is maintained up to a height, giving you a sense of the careful construction.

The hook to keep the entrance open is designed to securely securely (photo below).

The ceiling in the room has a mini carabiner at the top that can be used to hang lights and other lights, which is a small thing, but it is very popular (photo below). However, I still have a dissatisfaction with the fact that there is no pocket inside.

Ventilation for indoor ventilation is provided on the top of the short side (photo below). This is a popular method recently, where the core material is raised and fastened with Velcro when opening. Thanks to the core material, there is no inconvenience such as accidentally closing the product, and it can be seen as a well-thought-out, with a smart design that is thought out, such as the location near the ceiling where heat is likely to be removed. However, the size is not extremely breathable, so in order to provide great ventilation, it is necessary to combine the opening of the entrance.

Three Guy Lines (with mini carabiner) that reinforce the air to prevent it from blowing away by the wind are included as standard. You can hook it onto the pole as shown in the photo below, but Japanese agents have changed it to allow it to be attached to a special Guy Point to make it even more durable, considering its use in Japan. This is one point that it is strongly suggested that manufacturers are considerate of providing mountain tools in Japan.

Comparison with that tent you're interested in

Finally, when considering purchasing the LIGHT WINGS DAC UL1, we'll also briefly compare the tents that many people will probably compare to. I have also liked to use these tents, so I know that each one has its own good and unfortunate points. It's not a good or bad idea to know which one is better or worse, and then choose the model that suits you best, which is a purchase you won't regret.

BigAgnes Fly Creek HV UL1 EX

BigAgnes Fly Creek HV UL1 is a pioneer of ultra-lightweight double-wall tents that have been around for nearly 10 years now . The long-selling brand, which achieved amazing lightness and comfort through numerous original mechanisms at the time, is sure to be the benchmark for the LIGHT WINGS DAC UL1

In fact, compared to this model, the LIGHT WINGS has surpassed in many ways, including ease of setup, high livability such as spacious interior space and breathability, and overall cost-effectiveness such as footprint included, which makes it seem like the times have passed. However, in terms of overall weight, the winner is slightly better than Fly Creek

NEMO Hornet Storm 1P

The recently released NEMO Hornet Storm 1P is one of the ultra-lightweight double-wall tents that would have been made using above Fly Creek As it was recently developed, this tent is one of the most complete lightweight tents with the latest technology and new ideas everywhere, and is currently very well-finished ( please refer to the previous article ).

When comparing the latest tent and LIGHT WINGS the Hornet is the best in terms of weight and high livability . Not only is the widest bottom area, but also the clearance at the top and various indoor pockets, the Hornet is more convenient for comfort. However, when it comes to setting up, it is a separate inner and fly type, so it is not fast setup, and because it is a semi-free-standing tent, it is not a comfortable tent just by erecting a pole, LIGHT WINGS is better. Furthermore, the bottom is made of thin fabric, so a footprint is essential, but that is sold separately, and the LIGHT WINGS is definitely the best for the cost performance.
