Light, easy to run, easy to use. A fast packing backpack that is perfect for both hikers and runners [Review: SALOMON OUT NIGHT 30+5]

Let's start fast packing this year with your reliable partner

Even a capacity of over 30 liters is several hundred grams. These surprisingly light backpacks have become commonplace these days.

However, in exchange for its lightness, many of these models had to sacrifice many comfort and usability, such as comfort, ease of riding (difficult to shake), and convenience of storage. For this reason, ultralight and fast packing were in a way a world of people who had the time and energy tolerate the inconvenience and, conversely, found the joy of ingenuity, and were never open to everyone.

The OUT NIGHT 30+5 released by SALOMON this spring , is a carefully crafted fast packing backpack that opens the door to fast packing, which was a play for a limited number of healthy legs, to beginners more carefully. This time, we will thoroughly review the details of the usability, taking into account the specifications and impressions we have actually used. This is a must-read for hikers who want to walk lighter without sacrificing comfort, to runners who have begun to want to try running in the mountains, and for beginners and veterans.

Detailed review

A high fit that always sticks to your body despite all kinds of situations

The first thing that surprised me when I carry it on my back is the feeling of adhesion that is rare for a lightweight pack with a soft back like this. It also has high mobility that prevents it from shaking even during intense movements such as running. As a leading brand in the trail running field, the high stability that has been cultivated as a running back is impressive, but the secret behind achieving this high fit is the innovative, unique harness system "MOTION FIT™" that works with the back panel.

First, let's take a look at the rear panel (photo below). The center is sewn vertically, and both sides move like wings, and by tightening the straps, this fits like a hinge and clamps your back. This allows the back to fit perfectly onto the back without using parts such as metal frames or hard panels, providing a high fit. Furthermore, the rear panel is made up of 6 breathable EVA foam, three on the left and right, for a total of six breathable EVA foam, which allows you to easily follow the tilt and twist of the upper body.

And the harness part of the shoulder and waist that makes up the MOTION FIT™. The shoulder area is designed to connect the shoulder harness and the back panel with stretch material, so when the strap is tightened, the entire back fits the body, providing comfortable load distribution (photo below).

The waist harness on the waist is firmly attached to it, and it wraps around your waist so that it can be carried firmly with your entire back. This material is also made of stretch material, which improves the fit and reduces shaking (photo below).

The body is narrower as it goes slightly below, and the center of gravity is designed to be higher. The shoulder strap is split into two parts at the waist, which distributes the load more throughout the back and improves the ability to follow the movements of the upper body (photo below), and there are many ways to prevent stress from occurring during activities.

Furthermore, the rational compression function reduces the backpack's shake. The strap that connects the top lid and the main storage extends from the bottom of the pack, so the entire pack is compressed, making it easier to maintain balance, regardless of the large amount of content (photo below). What's more, there's a great deal of detail that allows the entire piece to be compressed with just one buckle.

High storage capacity thanks to functional pocket attachments

It's not that there are many large pockets, but the right storage space is placed in the right place for ease of use. The arrangement is perfect for fast packing, as it reduces the number of times you take off your backpack as much as possible, and you want to replenish your moisture and energy, protect your cold and waterproof, and access your smartphone.

The first big one is the stretch pocket on the right side of the front (photo below). It is made of stretch material, so it can store larger items than it looks. This can hold bulky items such as rainwear, and even small items will stay firmly in place without shaking. The good news is that there is a zipper located so you can put your luggage in and take it out without having to drop it off. The material is quite sturdy and doesn't seem to get caught on twigs or other twigs and tear.

The front reverse side has a zipper that provides direct access to the main compartment, making it completely inconvenient to put in and take your luggage in and out (photo below). While reducing parts everywhere to promote weight reduction, we never forget to ensure moderate convenience, and the sense of balance is exquisite.

Functionality derived from a running pack that allows you to take action without lowering the pack

Feedback from the running bag is that the shoulder harness has a mesh pocket for soft flasks and bottles on the right side, and the left side has a zippered mesh pocket. The waist harness has a small accessory case of the same size as the left and right, so you can store it with tools you use frequently or just a supplement to your lunch.

However, as someone who usually uses trail running packs, I would have preferred to have more pockets here. You can put a hydration bag on your back, so one water bottle holder is enough, but with a few more elastic pockets, you could have taken everything down by hand without letting your backpack down while you're on the move.

Another feature of OUT NIGHT is the 5L top lid (canopy). It can be easily removed and of course also provides compression (photo below). As we will explain later, it can be used as a chest pocket, and when combined, everything you need during your journey can be gathered within reach, so you can almost never take your backpack down and concentrate on walking.

Impressions of actually using it

When you actually carry it on your back, the fit really stands out. if you drive lightly or speed up on the descent, your luggage will hardly shake . It can be adjusted in detail in various places and the backpack itself can be compressed, so despite the contents of the luggage, you can feel excellent stability while you are on the move. Of course, since fast packing is intended, that's not the case if the weight exceeds 15kg.

The back panel fits firmly to the back, yet provides ventilation Looking closely at the back panel and shoulder harness, it is cleared out, which contributes to improved breathability and lighter weight. Thanks to this, even though it fits perfectly, it can't help but get stuffy even when you have a lot of exercise! That wasn't what happened. It's especially safe even in the hot season.

Furthermore, I realized that the actual weight was that the shoulder strap's connection to the waist is divided into two forks, allowing for exquisite load distribution when tightening the strap and loading on areas close to the center of the body As a result, when fitting, I felt that the center of gravity was firmly on my entire back (does it feel lighter than usual).

Although the chest strap is a single strap, there is a high degree of freedom in where it is fastened, and fine adjustments are possible. It can be easily removed by just a little pulling, so there is no stress.

And surprisingly convenient is the removable canopy . Of course, you can remove it if you don't need it, but you can attach it to your chest and use it with your smartphone, maps, bottles, etc. It can be used like a sacoche, and while you are still in motion you can put in and take out the necessary luggage without unloading the pack.

Summary: Recommended for people like this

It weighs less than 1kg, making it lightweight enough for a one-night backpack. Of course, there are many other lighter backpacks, so it's not surprising. However, this OUT NIGHT has a balanced balance of high fit, mobility and functionality that more than compensates for this, making it extremely easy to use. For speed hikers who want to expand their possibilities faster and farther, they are the best companions as they are not restricted in movement and are easy to put in and take out luggage. Even those who have never used a UL backpack before will be impressed by its lightness and fit.

There are three other models in the series, including OUT DAY OUT WEEK for multiple nights the OUT WEEK has a capacity of about 50L, making it a little too big unless you expect to travel around a week. OUT NIGHT is 35L, and can easily accommodate multiple nights for a few days, so if you're unsure about the capacity, we recommend choosing OUT NIGHT

Why not go on a journey this year to see more and more distances, seeing scenery you've never seen before?
