Shirataka Hill Trail Kick-off Event 2025 will be held again this year!

Enjoy spring by walking along the fresh trails opening in Yamagata in 2023

The kickoff event for the new trail "Shirataka Hills Trail," pioneered by Masafumi Saito, a triple crowner who has completed the three major long trails in the United States and Japan's first professional hiker, in his hometown of Yamagata Prefecture, will be held again this year

The Shirataka Hills Trail is a 31km circular course that connects mountain trails, including the main peak of Mt. Shirataka, with nature trails and forest roads. Carrying on the wishes of the late Noriyoshi Kato, a leading figure in Japan's long trails, author, and backpacker, and with a strong desire to "bring authentic North American trail culture to Japan," this rich trail was created by connecting roads, regions, and people. It's a rare opportunity to walk and camp with friends along this rich trail, and experience the latest gear at booths from various manufacturers and brands

This year too, many people from beginners to experienced hikers can enjoy half-day hikes, one-day hikes, and through-hikes. This time in particular, professional hiker Saito will be in charge of the through-hikes for two days, making this a rare opportunity

The exhibition booths will be lined with YLT-exclusive exhibits such as a Big Agnes tent display and the famous "Yamada Packs" booth, and the kick-off party will be packed with events such as a trail talk by Saito and the chance to win luxurious prizes
