Masafumi Saito's Taiwan Trail Event, Yamagata Long Trail Report. Ask any hiking professional anything
The new season has begun. This is the time when hikers start to get excited about where they will go and where they will walk this season
This talk show will be a casual conversation between Outdoor Gearzine readers and Masafumi Saito, a veteran hiker, Triple Crowner, professional hiker, and representative of the Yamagata Long Trail Club. We hope it will be a friendly gathering, like a night after dinner at a favorite mountain hut
We hope to hear from Saito about the trail event in Taiwan, the Yamagata Long Trail he is currently working on, and his favorite gear these days, while also answering any questions participants may have and discussing the future. Afterwards, Saito and I will also be making some important announcements, so if you are a regular visitor to our website, please come along!
The event will include light snacks, alcoholic and soft drinks (feel free to bring your own on the day), and some small souvenirs from Outdoor Gearzine
Masafumi Saito's profile
Since 2012, he has been active as Japan's only professional hiker. In order to promote trail culture, he walks trails overseas and contributes mainly to outdoor media, while also working to create trail courses in his hometown of Yamagata. He is committed to thru-hiking (walking a route in one go in a single year), and has thru-hiked over 22,000 km of trails (more than halfway around the earth). He is also active in all aspects of the outdoors, and has also taught camping, crafts, slacklining, and trail cooking. His current life's work is the Yamagata Long Trail (YLT), an initiative to create trails in his hometown of Yamagata, and this year he is developing the Shirataka Hills Trail, which even beginners can easily take on. If you are interested in other projects, please see this page for details. → YLT Club Homepage
